Dissention in the ranks? One would draw that conclusion reading the piece offered by the Westmoreland News. Addressing our problem with Virginia’s erosion and sediment control policy, which was handled in a rather caviler fashion last year, was one of the items discussed. Reading the article it would appear that the Town Council did not reach an agreement on this issue during the work session, however, resolution #24-13 has appeared on the agenda. Which raises the question. What is the procedure to get a resolution on the agenda? Mixed feeling would best describe my opinion on this issue. It is something we must address, but merging another function with the county without a demonstrated cost saving should be considered very carefully.

Merging the two schools would need very careful consideration. I would think that the cost of running the schools in WMC would just increase the taxes CB has to pay anyways within the county to cover it anyways. The budget cuts across the board probably cut out any possibility of the WMC budget being able to handle including CB....but I am in no way aware of that situation. Just an observer. This decision would also need to be considered for how the school intake will be. The school wouldn't move, just who attends the school and how it is run from an administration stand point. The county would have to redistrict the entire place and many kids who attend CB now would have to switch over to W&L and vice versus. But I agree, a cost analysis would need to be done and highlight a significant advantage of the school falling under WMC instead of CB for it to happen. Though I am new around here, from what I hear, the school has a very rich heritage and I would hate to see it change due to budget shortfalls that they had no control over. I would think the town should do everything in their power to keep the schools open....would the group that is doing the effiencies analysis be able to help with finding other ways to keep money in the school system?
