Tri-County Narcotics Task Force arrests 9 in Operation Roll Tide - Read the Story

The Tri-County Drug Task Force made sweeping arrests this morning around 3 a.m. in what the Task Force named "Operation Roll Tide." According to Sheriff C.O. Balderson, police also seized two firearms, ammunition, narcotics, stereo equipment and GPS devices.

Most of the charges were for marijuana, which should be legal anyway. I agree that young people shouldn't be messing around with opiates because the addiction can destroy their lives but to put them in jail for pot is a ridiculous waste of money and resources better applied elsewhere. The record for being arrested and spending time in prison will also adversely affect their future as well.

Bart Starr's daughter Sasha is sorta' correct... grass should probably be legal... but guess what? It isn't. Lighter sentence for possesion of it? Sure. Dealing is another story. Did the accused report that income to IRS?

The problem with pot is that it generally leads to other criminal activity. Might want to ask the task force where many of the people they arrest for schedule 1 or 2 drugs get their start. Its pot.

They also confiscated guns. These kids deal out in the open, talk about it in public, deal in school, deal in our restaurants and stores, arm themselves with guns, and they deserve everything they get for being so ignorant and thinking they are untouchable. Pot may not be the worst drug out there, but it leads to other illegal activities...not just harder drugs but guns and sometimes even gang violence. Let them get arrested, spend time in jail or prison, have a record, be on the police's radars when they get out which will hopefully begin to deter their criminal activities from ruining our town.

BS on the highway cleanup. These kids are from Colonial Beach. If 200 hrs of community service is required, come back home and lets start with service to the town such as clean up/painting our town hall and other work the Town can not afford to do.
