Why don't you ask the town employee what they were doing? Better yet ask the director he could tell you.

If you are in a wheelchair why would you want to come to a beach? You can use it in the sand or swim with it.Look at it like the whole parking lot is a handicapped lot.You guys always get the best parking spaces you need to learn to share with others and stop complaining.

Our beach, perhaps NOT, but CB's boardwalk is concrete - a good workout for those who dot NOT CHOOSE to BE in a wheelchair. Do you THINK before you let your fingers RUN YOUR mouth?

The parking kiosks should be handicapped accessible. I believe the ADA requires that - the town better check - quickly. Last time we were in Riverboat with a handicapped family member, there were designated handicapped spaces directly in front of the Riverboat. Perhaps they were all in use the day the gentleman arrived. Hopefully, accessibility to the kiosk can be resolved quickly.

Check Town Code....fees are waived for anyone displaying a handicap placard or plates. Also for POW or Purple Heart.
Sec. 14-57. Certain vehicles exempt from parking fees.
Notwithstanding any provision in this division to the contrary, it shall be lawful for vehicles displaying any of the following designations on their license plates to park in any town owned parking lot or facility without the payment of any parking fees: Former POW (section 46.2-746) or Purple Heart (section 46.2-742). Additionally, it shall be lawful for vehicles displaying disabled plates/placards (section 46.2-731) to park in any town owned parking lot or facility without the payment of any parking fees.

I cannot wait to hear about how the parking situation fiasco affects the festival this weekend. I'm sure alot of tourists who come in town every year for this festival will be saying that they will not be coming back. What in the world is the town thinking? Are they trying to drive the tourists away with all their new policies such as the parking and noise permits, etc? What are they going to come up with next?

Thank you cbv, That is my point, has anyone ever read the town code. Especially our Town Manager, Police, The Attorney or Council. anyone who tries to enforce or rewrite new oridnances should read it.

Here's a link to the online version. If you need a hard copy, Town Hall should be able to provide one. I suggest calling ahead.

Be wary when checking town code....because as crazy as this sounds, the town does not have the latest version of the ordinances on the website. On the parking paragraph that I posted, I queried the Town Council at the meeting last night, and they did tell me that it is the old ordinance that is online, however they believe that that paragraph is still in the new parking ordinance but the Chief is checking to be sure. He will get back to me with his answer, hopefully today.

how come the police were not enfocing the parking at the two kios lots? I paid my ten dollars. But then i noticed that several people next to me did not have a ticket for parking and nothing was enforced. WHY? I want my money back! whats good for one is good for all! I'll be calling the town hall for money refund.

This doesn't surprise me at all. I'm sure there are many more pissed off visitors that we haven't even heard from yet.

I had the same question and contacted a council member. I was told that the Chief directed his meter maid not to enforce the law this weekend, without the knowledge of the Town Manager or Council. Interesting.

Good grief, I am so-o GLAD there is the authority to pick and choose which laws should be enforced.

Any takers on which ones we sould like to see NOT Enforced, for a few days?

I was there Friday night for the parade and parking was no problem at all (plenty of parking on side roads)...but I have no problem walking a block or two or three. For those who are too lazy to walk more than 10 feet to your destination, I guess you will keep on complaining and paying your $10 when it is enforced. We can't always expect parking right at the front door of every building we want to enter or 4 feet from the beach we want to use.
