This is just me talking, but avg was the ABSOLUTE worst virus protection, I have ever had...You cannot (or could not) even get an online technitian to walk you through anything and THEY would not, under any circumstances, give you a phone number to call...It was really bad. I have had Norton also, and people swear by it, but it failed me also on the second computer I owed....I have McAfee now and have for a little over a year, and NO problem whatsoever...(Just my opinion of course) |

Just download the new version and it should uninstall or reinstall it for you. AVG is really good, especially since it is free.
Shootist, did you have the free version? If so then that is the reason for the lack of support. AVG typically does really well though. These programs are like anything else though, sometimes they make mistakes or lose their way. I think AVG 8 caused some computers to be really slow initially. 10 years ago Nortons was good, I think it is crap now--or at least was. I have been pleased with AVG though, really no problems. You could try Avast or if you want to buy a program, Kapersky used to be really good. |

I'm glad it's been great for you...Overall performance, support,and competence in dealing with a virus problem... I would rated them on a scale of one to ten.."piss poor":).....but possibly like a new automobile, most are great and some are lemons:) |

do I need any other kind of protection besides avg on my computer ? I don't know much about this virus protection .

I use AVG and Ad Aware both, have done so for many years, and the two together work great for me. I also have some programming experience, and my brother is a computer engineer for the government- he uses AVG and Ad Aware as well, suggested it to me in the first place.

I have used all of the above and the best by far is the free version of Avast. There is also a professional version for a fee.I have had not problems over the last couple of years.It has picked up several trojans.I tried using it and AVG together but it drug my system down. AVAST! is superior to AVG and many of the others.Many IT pros use it for home and business. That seems to be the consensus anyway in the IT mainstream.Hope this helps.:)

I like avg .I have windows defender on here , it's supose to scan every morning , but the next morning it has turned off .does anyone know why this is doing this? |
||||
It should turn on early in the morning (if you have it set at 3 am) then shut off after it is finished. There are some nasty viruses and spyware out there though that can prevent it from working. It should tell you when a scan was last run. Avast is an excellent choice too. You should almost never have 2 antivirus (antivirus is somewhat different than antispyware--but most today do both) programs installed though. There will be conflicts and it will slow your system down. |
||||
can you have avast and avg together or are they the same ?my windows defender was coming on every morning but now it says turned off every morning .have to turn it back on .I don't no too much about what to have on here....Kat |
||||
You shouldn't run AVG and Avast together. You are just asking for trouble or a slow system. Windows defender should stay on, not sure why it isnt. |

what about avg and super antispyware ?what would be agood free protection to run with avg?

1 AVG has spyware protection as well but if you are going to use a second program ad aware by lavasoft is pretty good (there is a free version)--or at least was. I just run defender and AVG at the moment. |

I have had avg pick up on many viruses that norton and mcafee missed. Just my opinion.
