Lt Gen Donald M Campbell, Jr, just got his third star. He may have been a Brigade Commander before but for the past several years he has been the Deputy CG and CG at U.S. Army Recruiting Command, called USAWRECK by the combat vets/Recruiters. He had plenty of time during his two tenures to turn around those suicides over there. Check out his USAREC section of the Department of Defense Suicide Event Reports (DoD-SER) - these suicides were arguably preventable - all desk jockeys and salesmen. They were not in theatre - they were over there at your local strip mall Recruiting Station. Hold your new CG accountable, Fort Hood. No one else is going to do it for you.

campbell seems to have been a desk jockey, like a lot of promoted officers today?they make their rank behind computers and not the theatre?its not right for desk jockeys to command troops that really serve in battle but thats politics!the killings at fort hood should be investigated from the bottom up.the army seems to move its top dogs(cone in this matter),before an investigation is complete?why didnt cone know about his officers ignoring warning signs about killer?it was his responsibility from the top to know what his junior officers were doing?lets move him before trial?its amazing in todays military how many can achieve the rank of general and have done nothing but kiss ass for it!

You hit in on the nail bud. Idiots become colonels who become generals. Say it ain't so Joe. When the Army on the average over the last five to ten years has promoted 85% of O5s then you have a recipe for disaster. During FY 2011 the Army promoted only 65% to O6, the lowest in years and turned around and promoted more with several months of the 2011 promotion list coming out. Don't worry about it LTC, if you don't make it the first time you will make it the next time and it works that way from O1-O6.

Compare that to the NCO promotion rates. During one of the most recent promotion cycles the promotion rate to master sergeant was 1.9%. In otherwords the people who are the heart and soul of the Army, the ones who make the Army roll---are promoted at a rate far below Army officers.

If you don't believe the promotion data is in the Army Times each time a promotion cycle occurs.

So true! The new CG at Fort hood, Lt Gen Donald M. Campbell, Jr., also has to contend with the "Watchtower" out the East Gate, a three story high watchtower there to remind him of the suicides on his watch, and any and all soldiers he re-deploys with PTSD, and other mental health conditions before they are stabilized. Good going protesters! I am not anti-Army; I am pro-soldier!

With the empty housing on post have you consider turning walker village into an assistant living community for vets. So that they can have that security. Also turning Pershing park housing or venvable village into a transit housing area for the all the wound solider and there family so that they can have that comfort to be close to medical facility and security.
