why does everytime you go to the stores or walk down the street you all got someone wants money from you or want cigarettes?
Can't these people go get a job? We work hard for what we get and it not right to gave it to people that too lazy or to high to get there live together.

i agree..it happens to me just about everywhere..movie store, walmart..gas sation..i just ignore them usually, one time i had a lady come up to me at blockbuster giving me this long story of why she needed money, i finally told her if she didnt leave me alone i would call the cops, you could obviously tell she wanted it for drugs.

I've had them knock on my door at night asking for money even. If I'm sitting outside they are always walking around the neigborhood and if they see you they ask you for cigarettes or money, or they try to sell you food; ususally some kind of frozen meat, for money. The kids in this area travel in gangs, since last year there have been a sharp increase in gang markings everywhere, stop signs, driveways, sides of buildings, etc. I've found human waste next to dumpsters at the local stores! How can they afford bikes when they pan-handle all day, must pay pretty good if all of them seem to have one. Or there are alot of kid's missing theirs in this town.

I am glad you signed up here. I was surprised at how little I had to tell them to get signed up.

Now, on the topic you wrote about - have you tried providing annonomous tips to the cops?
Or a letter to the newspaper?(They have a policy against anonomous letters to the editor, but you could send it to the news department - giving times and places - and ask if they would follow up on it.

This is the kind of thing that gets Killeen a scruffy reputation.

Has anybody ever noticed that we have panhandlers living in the covered bus stops in downtown, in doorways at local stores, under bridges and so forth?
Ever noticed that not one word is ever said about doing anything about the hookers, gangbangers and dealers at any of the city council meetings?
Nobody has to send times or places to the papers or to the police, all anybody has to do is take a walk; nope thats it, but rather drive around and you'll see why the city of Killeen has a "scruffy reputation" and just maybe folks will understand why it's hard to get new businesses to locate in Killeen.
Gotta sovle this problem before we move on to another one.

I was at the carwash on ft hood street a few days ago and some guy tried to sell me a copied CD for 8 dollars and when I asked him for the website he said he wouldnt give that information without a financial contribution. I said no of course. They used that they were raising money for soldiers type of B.S.

No legit org will say they wont give you their webiste information. And I often wonder how legit some of these folks are.

Although not all areas of Killeen are bad as others, it is a fact that crime has increased THROUGHOUT the city. a short drive through the "downtown" and many other neighborhoods provide you with such a scenic view! on the left we have a prostitute looking for her next john, and homeless people hanging out underneath a tree in a parking lot of a graffiti laden business. To the right you seee vacant tagged up houses and kids who aren't old enough to fend for themselves wandering in packs. A trip to the local video store or grocery more than likely will include someone trying to get a cigarette or money off of you. It seems there are very few affluent areas left, most of our town has fallen to the wayside and has been left to decompose slowly. Why?? Why has it taken things getting this bad before anyone speaks out?

It is so sad to see a community fight with each other instead of banding together for a common cause. think of what good could be done if your points of view were expressed to local law enforcement, at town meetings and to media sources? This won't take just one voice, it will take many. So speak up. Or is sitting here arguing back and forth easier and more productive?

LOL! Once in Dallas, I ssen a guy with a sign that said he wanted money so he could get a six-pack because it had been a long day and he was thirsty; he was at least honest about it.
When I lived in Longview TX, a group of 6 panhandler's lived in the the same weekly motel I was staying in - I was there working a job, they were eating steaks, grilled on a small grill outside their room, drinking good beer while I was trying to make my money last thru the week so I could make it, got to know them while I was there and come to find out, these guys were pooling the rent for the room and making around 2-300 dollars a day. Used to see them all up and down I-20 everyday.
Made me wonder if I was in the wrong trade at times?
Another time in Dallas I seen a girl who was honest enought to say that she panhandled to keep from hooking at night, at least she didn't hook near the motel I was staying in at any rate.
There are people out there who want to be panhandlers, it's easier for them than working a regular job.

I panhandle in Killeen. I'm a homeless veteran. 59 yrs old with a broken neck, cracked hipp and fly a sign on the street. Innuries not military related so I get no disability. I'm clean and sober and just trying to feed myself. I live in an abandon house out 195. All help is greatly appreciated.
