1 When you encounter a Bear, it is essential to know the difference between a Brown Bear and a Black Bear. A Black Bear is typically only seeking food, berries and edible greenery. They will typically run away during an encounter. A Brown Bear is far more aggressive and will eat anything. It is best to stay still, act dead even in the event of a Brown Bear encounter. In extreme cases pepper spray may be utilized. One way to determine if you have Black or Brown Bear in your area is to examine the feces of the Bear in question. A Black Bear's feces will be mostly organic, grasses, berries and alike, while a Brown Bear's will have small shards of CLOTHING and may smell like PEPPER SPRAY... Be Careful out there! The Ranger. |

Yes, I have the scoop...... It was black bear, about 300lbs, sent by the kinsman of ole Dare on a mission to eat Yankee tourons. Once she reports back on how they taste, they will return in numbers for more yankees, or halt the mission all-together for fear that their assholes will be repositioned on their shoulders. |

Drive the full length of the bypass twice a day, every day. Frequently go to Frisco also. I HATE the traffic. I LOVE the tourist dollars. I love having places to shop and lots of choice in places to eat. I love the services provided. I wish tourist season was longer, I could use a raise!

There's an article about the bear sightings on the front page of yesterdays paper, I think Coastland Times. It was seen near Avalon Pier, Fifth St. and also on Ketch Lane in KDH. Officials are not sure if there is more than one bear as one was reported to be 500 lbs and the other 200 lbs.

Yo I was driving down landing and saw the bear cross landing off katch I saw some guys chasing 2 dogs on ketch the dogs obviously were interested in the bear. on my way back up landing there were 3 or 4 cops and the dog catcher who said she saw it and we told her we saw it and she and we agreed it was about 200 to 250. About 15 minutes later I cracked my first beer of the day.

In Old Nags Head cove in 1991, Oregon Inlet camp ground 1979, bears swim across the Sound and island hop. Read it in Va>Pilot archives. Nothing new here just more stupid transplants that need to get the hell out.

so, anyone know if its black or brown?

Since black bears are native to the area and are found in pretty high numbers across the bridge, I think it's pretty safe to assume it's a black bear. Brown bears are native to the pacific northwest and canada.

we are supporting our rights to arm bears.if you see one and it's unarmed, please give it a gun. bears on the wild and wooly outer banks need all the protection they can get.relax,it's bear mating season and if she's in heat there will be some stud boar bears swimming over soon from mann's harbor or maybe walking over on the old bridge in the wee hours of the morning.
