Let’s get one thing straight – I like dogs. I’ve had several awesome dogs throughout my life. They’re great companions and can be a perfect addition to a family. Heck, for many people, especially older empty nesters, dogs ~are~ family. Dogs rule. I get it.

Here’s what I don’t get: people that keep their dogs outside at all time – treating them as if they’re yard furniture. And while neglecting a living, semi-sentient animal with less care & thought than a lawn mower is somehow legal, leaving said animals outside, especially this time of year when we can finally keep our windows open, is just wrong…and disrespectful. And maybe that should be illegal. Guess what? Dogs like to bark. Yep, it may come as shocker to many of you dog owners but your spurned spaniel is disturbing our peace. And it’s getting on our nerves. I say ‘our’ because I know I’m not alone. And while the Collington Canine chorus might sound OK to you (if you even can hear it as you’re probably sleeping off yet another wicked beach-day bender) it’s beyond annoying to others – especially at 5:38 AM. Dog owners like you probably (and unfortunately for humanity’s future) have unruly offspring, as well. People with noisy, neglected dogs are often the same people whose kids run amuck in, let’s say, Bob’s Grill, sneezing & blowing their runny red booger-crusted noses, stealing tips, spreading head lice and just making an otherwise already tortuous ‘dining’ experience even more miserable. This same family then loads their pre-diabetic descendants into their dually diesel F350 crew cab and continues their assault on America in the isles of Walmart where they pile bags of ‘Ol Roy into the baskets of their motorized wheel chairs, generally leaving no space for the customers that don’t lose food & other objects in the folds of their skin. See www.peopleofwalmart.com for examples of the typical neglectful dog owner. I could go on.

So there we have it, folks. We just want some quiet to accompany our peace. By all means, please keep having fat children. There’s a good chance that they’re stupid, too. This is good as it keeps all sorts of people employed. Doctors. Special ed teachers. Police. The Bob’s Grill kitchen & wait staff. And continue hauling your massive carcasses around in obscenely oversized vehicles. This keeps America’s assembly lines rolling, gas stations open & your mechanic’s kids in braces. And the last time I checked, dog food is (mostly) made in the U.S.A. Thank you for keeping our economy going! But fer chrissake, for the next few mild weeks could you put your overlooked yard yappers INDOORS?!?

BAN the feeding and possession of ANY and ALL dogs in the OBX. They are worthless anyway.

It just goes to show that some people think they are funny or clever... but they are the only one that sees it that way.

On a serious note, Dog owners- PICK UP YOUR DOGS POO and please keep them on a lease. Or face the fines after I call Animal Control for your failure to do so.

I agree with Sound to Sand. The barking is annoying.

Two pitbulls on Quail in fenced in yard, bark incessantly. Best part is when you walk past the house they become so agitated they attack each other.

Residents are from Virginia. Wish they would stay up there.

I remember about 15 years ago they were finding dogs floating in the Colington canals w/ duct tape around there mouths. Perhaps the person responsible for that was tired of hearing the barking dogs too? I think they should of done that to the owners of the dogs. Dogs being dogs, owners are clueless...
