Is it just me or are they getting more and more expensive? I shop thrift stores because I cannot afford to pay full price for items that I need. I remember years ago when they where in the old building in KDH you could go in and get a couch for $25.00 a kitchen table for 10-50 (depending on how nice it was) and clothes where all on racks and priced all the same. In the last few years I notice the little spot off to the right of "name brand clothes" that are priced way higher, and today I was shocked to see a table and chairs for $350.00. Maybe I am wrong but aren't these items donated? Isn't the point of a thrift store to pay less for a used item? I realize that they are raising $ for thier battered women shelters and other charitys in the area but at the cost of $350.00 for a kitchen table? Or the "antiques corner" where an antique appraiser comes in and decides the prices of something antique. I can't afford to shop the hotlines anymore.. They need to change thier sign from thrift store to boutique. I wonder what the people who run and over see these stores are making? They have to be making enough from all these overpriced free items to be able to cover tons of expences AND the charity that they support. I don't think I can step into or donate to another hotline again.. I was disgusted today.

Don't shop there-it supports an anti male agenda (disguised as a "battered womans" shelter)...in time I'm sure it will support some form of gay nonsense as well

I agree that hotline has gotten pricey! I used to shop there all of the time for children's clothing but now you can buy new clothes at wal-mart or k-mart at close to or the same price!

I was looking for an entertainment center and saw one I liked. I was ASTOUNDED when I saw a $200 price tag on it! It wasn't even solid wood!

I like shopping for good causes but this just seems they have overstepped the boundaries a bit...

The Dare Challenge Thrift Store in KDH still has pretty reasonable prices.

Apparently you know nothing about the organization. Yes, Hotline was created to support a Battered Person Shelter. It has housed battered men, and a LOT of children from abusive parents.

I use to donate a lot to hotline and I would talk it up to others to do so too. Then I heard from workers there that they get super good deals on stuff they want, in other words they get first pick of the good stuff at giveaway prices. I know a couple who furnished their new rental house with stuff from hotline because she works there and they got it all for next to nothing. That isn't right! I now donate to Goodwill and suggest other use them instead of hotline.

I'm glad that it's scope has expanded...none the less, I still believe that it's agenda leans towards promoting a female perspective (including the possibility of a trickle down "Sisters of Sappho" cause)

Seems to me that your agenda leans towards promoting an ignorant male perspective...

Actually I prefer to label it as 'Angry" male perspective.

I'm sick and tired of women making poor choices, getting the crap beat out of them, and then joining others in a collective male bashing party.

Hotline is just slimy....the store give me the creeps

of course it leans more towards women and children. They are the population most abused.

Until you walk in their shoes, don't criticize women making poor choices. You don't know what all is involved.

I agree~ but it's because thrift shops aren't just for po' folk like us anymore. It's become a "hobby" for the elite crowd, apparently. And if they can get that price for something, then good for them. But it still sucks for us.

I did get an unbelievable king comforter set that normally retailed for over $200 at Macy's for under $9 at the Goodwill the other day, and it's like brand new! So thanks to the rich person who donated it, lol.

Most of my favorite clothes are from thrift...I call it my "boutique shopping", because you can often get much nicer designer clothes there than at the regular stores around here.

Just what we need...more angry males.

Aww, boo hoo, poor baby, he's sick and tired of male-bashing. Pulease, SPARE me. Do you REALLY think you deserve to have an opinion here? Then you are sadly mistaken. You have no idea what it's like to be a woman in a man's world. Our reality is living with the DAILY fear of the threat of violence or DEATH from any random male. Until you know what it's like to fear just going out to the store at night, or to a mall in broad daylight, or breaking down along the highway, because you might be kidnapped, raped, and/or murdered, you have NOTHING to be angry about.

FACT: Men's #1 fear from women-- being laughed at.
Women's #1 fear from men-- being killed.

If it doesn't interest you, then MOVE ON! GOD, some people think the world revolves around and should cater only to THEIR interests. Did you stop to think someone else might be interested?? Hello! Didn't think so...you only think of yourself.

Fact #1
Poor judgment is the #1 reason why victims exist in the first place.
Quick lesson! the guy that you got the squirmys from because he was "hot" or had some pathetic attraction based on what he drove, or your inability to see trash for what it is-is your fault ...
No, his abuse is criminal, but your worthless need for attention is no better...
And don't give me the song and dance about "There was never a sign...There is always a sign-most of these victims are too dense and worthless to see them...
Here's a clue: Anybody that displays visible anger in any physical manner is a potential abuser...it is never hidden to the extent that it doesn't manifest itself at some time.
The only thing dumber than women are the trash they find it necessary to make excuses for.
