Watching from Seattle, WA., all the contestants were outstanding! I loved the Kahiko and Auwana performances. Each wahine looked stunning in their outfits adorned with beautiful fresh puas. I stayed up all night until 2:30 a.m. to see who would be crowned Aloha Miss Hula 2008. Congratulations Kuhilani! You deserve this honor. I will be staying up late again to see the rest of the Halaus dance their way to victory. Much Mahalos for KITV and staff, especially Auntie Paula, Uncle Kimo, Auntie Pualani and Miss Tehani for their wonderful coverage of the Merrie Monarch festivities. You guys always deliver the goods. Mahalo Nui Loa!

To all Miss Hula competitors - In my book you are all of our 2008 Miss Hula's. You are all winners and represent the best of the very best in the world. You should and are commended for your dedication. There is certainly room for more than one Miss Hula. SOVEREIGHNTY.

Sorry to change the subject, but why do newspaper articles and tv reporters say "many strands of lei" instead of "many strands of leis?" This has been happening only the last couple of years. Why?

Good God - I don't ever want to be judges at that comp - all the dancers were so beautiful and awesome. I don't think that should be a competition that determines winners and losers; that should be showcase that displays all the beautiful variety of dancing people and their styles. Whatever the case - congrads to all the performers on a great performance. If I was judging (heaven forbid) everyone would win.

Congratulations to all of the dancers, all we're beautiful, however I think that Pi'ilani Klein got JIPPED! Her Kahiko was an outstanding noho, and she moved while on the ground. Furthermore, her 'auana was outstanding! My biggest gripe with the 'auana last night is dancing with shoes in a Holoku: if you are dancing in a Holoku, you need to wear SHOES! Not wearing shoes is like going on stage without a shirt or a skirt. I learned this from my grandmother, who was a famous hula dancer in the 30's and 40's (and beyond). Pi'ilani was the ONLY dancer to dance in shoes. I truly believe that the results this year were totally "political" (if you want to call it that). Basically, these judges vote for girls and kumu's who they know, who they favor. I think that Pi'ilani should have at least placed. Even that girl from San Diego was good. The girls who won last night (for example, the 5th place girl Perez-Kaiwi) were BORING. Not only that, her hands were absolutely horrible (THUMBS sticking WAY out), and she didn't look very graceful. I wonder when Merrie Monarch will start awarding the beautiful hula dancers, versus awarding the same damn kumu's every year. Yikes.

Because adding an S to a Hawaiian word to make it plural is grammatically incorrect.
