Coco Palms could be next for Wyland

World-renowned marine life artist Wyland, along with a San Diego hotel developer, is aggressively seeking to acquire and put his name on Kauai's historic Coco Palms Resort. Full Story

hey wyland leave the coco palms alone. it was a sore spot to the kauai people the last time a developer tried to build a hotel. Why not support sen. hooser, who has tried a couple of times to create a cultural/historical park on those sacred grounds. WE DO NOT NEED MORE HOTELS AND CONDOS ON KAUAI!!

This guys is getting way to commercial, his art is mass produced junk!! why do people buy that crap. He profits off Hawaiis beautiful marine life and what does he do, pimps them out for more money. Instead of building hotels why not give back to the creaters that made you so famous. I guess its all about the money now a days.

If we give him the hotels will he stop painting? If so, then he can have anything he wants.

They have a good Press Agent!
Most of this article is a big lie! See litigation "Lodging Hospitality, Inc./Lodging Capital Partners" vs eRealty, Bushor, et al... These guys are ethereal idiots! They have helped make a mess out of the Ilikai hotel, together with "Brian the Bozo," and destroyed a landmark hotel and the "Yacht Harbor Tower" has been laying in ruin and demise for over two (2) years. Who do they think they are kidding?

As a native Hawaiian from Anahola I say go ahead and re-buil Coco Palms BUT......... only if the Superferry can dock at Wailua River Marina.

Coco Palms needs to be a park. No commercial venture of the ego-maniacal will succeed. These are new times for that land. Get a clue. Sen. Hooser has the vision.

Here we have the ultimate fake exploiting Hawaii for his own self enrichment while paying lip service to "saving" the "environment". How many first rate museums around the world are clamoring to add "Wyland" to their permanent collections? Answer: none. Why, the #### is worthless except as a self-promotion gimmick to make the hustlers around Wyland and him rich. Remember the hustlers selling Dali in Lincolnvision crapola in Waikiki at the Center Art Gallery. This guy is in the same category. Fake, phony, hustler, exploiter of Hawaiians and Hawaii, b**, d****, all around stink. Oh, yeah, this is just what Turtle Bay needs. Right. Ask Wyland's landlord in Haleiwa why Wyland stole all the koa wood on the walls and made frames out of it. What a phony and what a disgrace to genuine artists who really care about wildlife.

I too agree that if there can be a way to keep some of the Coco Palms history and make the rest of the area a Cultural Park, that would be great! Things such as an ampitheather, bocce' ball area, picnic tables, bike path, walkways, an overpass to the beach etc., and points of interest as to the historical points for the location.I do feel that someone should tear down the old SeaShell restaurant and re-build a new one. Also clean and drag the beach, like the old days. There is a ton of history that the islanders of Kauai should want to preserve on the site. No more hotels or Kauai will eventually be the Cement tower island, not the garden island. I say Kauai, take it back!

Coco Palms historic fishponds and grounds should be preserved as a historic site.

Its sad when places like Europe preserve all their history while we r stuck in the dark ages & allow our history to be paved over by every new developer that flys in from Florida or Texas.

I agree, leave Coco Palms alone or let it be a park for everyone to enjoy. Perhaps a venue like Hearst Castle in San Simeon, California. It could be Funded and maitained through the state. I spent many a summer at the resort in the 60's and 70's. It is a sacred place to be enjoyed by everyone, not just those who can afford expensive hotel rooms or condos.

Wyland, once again we see the fingers of his empire spreading out....empire...I hate that word..I know this man or at least know what he did in his early years to get to where he is today...and like all greedy men it is not pretty....first, he never married or had children...this goes a long way in telling of someone's character in my opinion....He calls himself the world's leading environmental artist...what a pack of lies this is...I have been to China and have been to the factory that makes his sculptures....did you know it takes up to 6 55 gallon drums of resin to make one edition of his acrylic sculptures? That is a lot of oil and air pollution to make this type of art...and he must have 40 or more of these editions....his paint used in the murals is a toxic house paint which he gets for free.....just pathetic to see how one lies to get money....what a sham...he can not paint well on his small canvas's and has others paint the area above the water which is much different looking than his amateur under water drawing....he owns several homes....which environmentalist has this type of lifestyle....I think he should run for president....he is a shoein because all it takes is a good liar to get into that office.
