A lot of kids nowadays have no respect for the elders. Some parents are "enablers" and do not teach their kids right from wrong. Kids learn by examples. Parents, are you being a good example?
The Sauceda family needs to think about what they are doing when they go after the law that tries to protect them!

no excuses for the violent thugs, but you got you wonder if this was good police work
the cop was scrappin with teenage delinquents and hit a girl in the face
then he came back outside for more instead of waiting for back-up --- I guess a man has to protect his home
In my opinon if he was a SMART COP he would have waited for back up and no act like RAMBO.... then cry when he get lickings........ another JOKE

Does anyone believe that these guys will not continue to commit violent crimes? Cop sirens don't even stop them. They need to be exterminated from society.

Exterminate them, neuter them, or somehow get these guys like this out of the gene pool. They're polluting the islands with invasive hominoid species. Where's the invasive species task force when you need them?

When I first heard about this incident my first thought was that Saint Louis Football players were involved until I heard that it was on Maui.

It's a good thing the superferry is no longer here.
I'd hate for these animals to come to Oahu.

I hope the detective and his family recovers fully.

Although we can say "What is wrong with those people?" in reality, we should ask, "What is wrong with us?" We learn to blame their anger on others, e.g., race, ethnicity, color, thinking, language, etc. This is not unique to Hawai'i, but it certainly is not a part of the "image" marketed by the tourist industry. When and who takes responsibility?

"I saw him raise the bat, and he was yelling,'(Expletive) cop, you hit my (expletive) daughter,' " she said. "That's when he swung. He hit my husband across the left side."

well, doesn't exactly look like your (expletive) daughter was entirely innocent here. if i had done this 20 years ago, my dad would have used the bat on me instead of on the cop.

that is why we need castration. if these two pieces of trash was spaded young, this would not have happened, BUT, not to late to get there next generation, while you have them in custody.

Bottom line, we don't know all of the details, however, whether this person is a cop or not. What would and ordinary person do if he or she saw Teenagers destroying private property? Your private property. And, what would you do if they started attacking you after you confronted them? Normal teenagers will either run away or at least stop and not attack adults that have IDed themselves as police officers. I guess this neighbor island police officer's mistake was not realizing these teenagers were not typical, but part of a family that has real potential for murder and mayhem.

I couldn't help but question the judgement of an off-duty cop fist fighting with his neighbor's teenage children.
Granted, two wrongs don't make a right, and the kids fathers are clearly scum bags, but are their others who agree with me that the cop could have handled this better?
Could have, would have, shouldn't have. I don't know, "Chris". Maybe if you would have been there you "Could have" told the cop what to do, maybe? Chris, you do know that the cop is on duty 24 hours a day, right? So you present as fact that the cop was "fist fighting" his neighbor's kids? Did you read the newspaper accounts that the cop told the kid he was under arrest, "Chris"? If you did, then it's not a fist fight, "Chris". It's simply a cop trying to arrest the kid, "Chris".

does your conscience bother you, counselor?

If they are neighbors and Detective Becraft has been on the pd for 20 years there is a chance, however slight, they knew him to be a police officer.

But if not, the words "you are under arrest" may have been a clue. And I would think he did display his badge and/or credentials as this is standard practice.

The bottom line is why do people who were not there assume he did not identify himself nor show his badge? For that matter, any conclusions drawn about what actually happened made by anyone who was not there is simply "alice."

In an article yesterday, Becraft testified that when he told the punk kid that he was under arrest, the kid replied that Becraft was off-duty. Badge or not, no excuse for this kind of violence. The punk kid was damaging mailboxes (isn't that federal property?). Hats off to Becraft for speaking up to these punks and taking action after they attacked him. It must be horrible to live near troublemaker, punk-a$$es like the Saucedas. Lock 'em up and throw away the key.

I think that they were all neighbors and the aggressors knew that the detective was a police officer.
