I would of shot the suspect in the leg first. If your shooting a gun in city limits, it should be pointing towards the ground in- case of a miss. Sure the body is a bigger target, but that is a kill zone also. The suspect never fired a shot and should of been hit in a body part that was not life threating. It kinda makes me feel unsafe to even drive to work. If I get pulled over for speeding and go to release my seat belt so I can get my wallet out of my back pocket will I get shot by a trigger happy police officer. (Makes you wonder.) The police are suppose to be trained to be marksman. I shot a glock before and missed the bullseye. But the second time I shot I was close because I had enough common sense to see where I was aiming and where the bullet hit. You have to compensate for that. These officers get to have practice at firing the weapons and should be able to determine if it is a kill shot or not.

Sounds like the Fort Smith Police Department is getting trigger happy. I would have aimed for the gun myself. I guess the want to shot then ask questions later. I guess they are afraid of getting shot.

Jim and william, you have no idea what you are talking about. It is evident by your comments you have had bad experiences with the police. The suspects wife called in fear for her life. The police show up and he refuses to drop the gun when asked by 3 police officers. No police are not supposed to wait to be shot at. William I too can hit a bullseye when I am faced with a paper target not a gun wielding abusive husband. Officers are trained to stop the threat if that means killing an armed suspect then that is his choice not theirs.

Shooting someone in the leg does nothing to stop their ability to shoot a gun and kill you. I think unbuckling a seatbelt is a totaly differant than having a gun and pointing it at someone. Would it be trigger happy if that man was pointing a gun at you or a member of your family. That man chose to chase someone around with a gun and threaten the lives of others. The officers chose that they wanted to go to their families at the end of the day. my comment are not ment to hateful or rude. I just want you to see a diffant view.

I believe the police just did what needed to be done in order to keep everyone safe. I would have responded in the same manor if I was him/her. When an angry man has a gun pointed at you would you really take time to aim for his legs or other nonfatal body part. I think not! Other peoples safty was at risk.

It appears once again that the police are always put in the wrong in situations such as this. If you had the training and had to do the job of a police officer who is only wanted when YOU call them maybe your attitude's would change. Police Officer's have to act in a split second when other's don't have that to contend with. Everyone can criticize from a distance but until you are in that position looking down the barrel of a gun and the person is refusing to drop their weapon, don't judge the police for doing what you, the citizens, entrust them to do, protect life!

I know this police officer that shot this man. He is a great cop and friend. I know he did what he was trained to do. If he would have shot hm in the leg, like somebody has suggested that man could have returned fire and killed or hurt the other officers there. This man should have not pointed a gun at the officers. In the military ive been trained do not point a weapon at anything you do not inteend to shoot.

I feel for Eric's family, however, he put himself into that position. It is a bad deal for all, but the police acted responsibly in this one.

Even if the police did act wrongfully in this situation (and I'm not saying they did) you will never know about it. The cops in FS and most everywhere are good about taking care of their own. Its a good ole boy system in FS and they know how to close ranks.

Let's see.....a police officer is caught having sex in a police car behind a business in broad daylight and not fired. A police officer doesn't report the DWI of another officer and neither officer is fired because "they didn't know" they were supposed to report it. The FS police use their police issued Blackberry's to sext married women whilst on duty. They get slaps on the wrists...and that boy's and girl's is the good ole boy system.

As you can see in my post before this explains it. One police officer shot. Now get pulled over and take a risk of getting shot just pulling off your seat belt to get your wallet out. These guys are trigger happy now. What is the justice in that. They are trained not to kill unless provoked. But they take a body shot anyway. I can kill a squirrel with a co2 pistol BB gun from 40 yards. These are trained officers that get to have practice with varibable calibers and won't take a shot that will wound the suspect, just kill him. They take a leave with pay and go on with their lives. Some officers feel like I do (The older vets) but these young officers are trigger happy. So all of us tax payers need to be cautious of the young guns under the blue lights. Tell your kids and tell your grandchildern.
