Was it a slow news day? While the young lady's intentions and cause are very admirable, do they merit a front-page story and 4 photographs?

This is the problem these days; too many people placing a facade around charity so that they can bum around while raising money. Giving to charity and volunteering is great. Bumming money so you can ride a bike and do nothing for a few months, not so much. Yeah, I would love to be able to ride a bike and have fun for a few months, but if I do it, I won't couple it with "charity" to disguise my intentions. How 'bout this... If you're so interested in supporting a charity, go get a job and donate money, then volunteer your spare time.

And oh yeah, it must have been a slow day for the Sun!

Reminds me of all the church mission trips.---'Please donate money to send me on my mission trip. I can't afford the airfare and expenses. I'll post pictures on Facebook.'

Yeah, I think God is calling me to witness to all the sinners on the beaches of Cancun. Please donate! God bless!

I agree with the mission trips. Why spend thousand dollars a piece to fly to Denver, paint a church when u can do that right here in Greene county. Clean out the elderly gutters, mow yards, rake leaves, don't ask them to give extra money at church they can't afford but pressured to do so when in turn they have many needs at their own home. Very sad all of these churches do this when 5 miles down the road are people in need or even next door

I DO really appreciate your dripping sarcasm, if not restraint.

I am a Christian and am not knocking those who help others, but agree that the vast majority of foreign mission trips are done for all the wrong reasons. Very little gets accomplished, outside of bragging rights of going to a cool locale and showing pics to friends of holding underprivileged children that you took photos of with you $3000 camera.

As for this post, much the same. As I mentioned above, why should I give money for this young lady to waste a few months riding from Maine to Florida! As for the insinuation that money goes to charity, I would like to get full disclosure as to what percentage goes to the said charity for direct support of the cause (not funding a party to celebrate the ride and funding others to be able to ride).
