Every time I went there, I had no problems. I keep reading stories about how "bad" this place is. The Owner, I assume she was, was pretty cool in my opinion.

I bought a sports themed shirt for my dog and have checked out the puppies on my walks down Duval before.

I can only speak from personal experience, but it's a nice place and I had no problems.

This store should be shut down. It is a disgrace to the city of Key West. Please people, do your research on puppy mills. These dogs come from puppy mills. The mothers, breeding dogs, are treated in the most inhumane way. They get no vet care, live in feces, have bleeding paws, are debarked, have matted fur to the point of it being painful. They go blind, are abused.Just do ONE Google search on puppy mills then if you purchase a puppy from this store you should be ashamed of yourself. Justice for people like Scott Smith may not happen in this world, but it surely will in the next!!!!

All the pet stores in stock island and key west have been sold to the owner of Dave's pets. With the exception of pet supermarket(?) and pampered pet. The puppies and other animals are breed and bought for a profit FROM PUPPY MILLS.

Good question.....the unfortunate reality is that it is not illegal to sell "puppy mill" dogs (which these dogs most certainly are). Most people buy the puppies then leave town and once they are home problems arise and unfortunately you have no recourse at that point in time.

It may not be illegal but it immoral to support puppy mills in any way!!

Thankfully they finally went out of business. One less outlet for puppy mills. Now if we can just get Dave's Pets to quit selling puppies....

Dave's is an obvious for profit business that has no regard for the animals they sell. They were selling pigs as pets in KW where it is illegal to even own a pig. Their prices are not realistic either. It won't be long before Pet Supermarket wipes the floor with them. Pampered Pets is by far the most ethical pet store in KW. They do not even sell dogs anymore because the are sympathetic to the over population caused by puppy mills. When they did sell dogs they were given the best care. I purchased my dog from them and he was very happy and healthy. He was taken home each night by staff members who took turns caring for him. He was well adjusted to people and already trained when I purchased him.

I had a similar experience with this shop. Rude, nasty, defensive. Overpriced and just plain bad business. After doing research I found out a lot about puppy stores and puppy mills. These owners just lie and skirt around the truth. Karma will eventually get them, I hope.

Garbage shop selling puppy mill pets. What a shame there are so many dogs in shelters that could use a home. Anyone who owns one of these dog shops is a
jerk......have you no decency at all???? Greedy bitch.

If you are a person who buys dogs from money hungry breeders, YOU are contributing to the EXTREMELY high death rates of dogs in Florida. There are dogs in line to die EVERYDAY at shelters. Why cant you be the one who saves a life. And how do you know a cute puppy didnt come from a puppy mill? The puppies look great but most often the parents are victims of extreme neglect. How can you live with yourself knowing you could have contributed to this? There is an abundance of purebred dogs in shelters. My four Great Pyrenees were on death row until I saved them is an excellent resource to locate dogs.

I am a tiny toy rat terrier. My family bought me fro dogs on rival. We have all been so happy together but now I am blind. I am only four years old. I have glaucoma and we wonder if this primary glaucoma was caused by breeding practices.

excuse me all i said was that i have never paid for a dog. and i always got mine at the pound or they were strays that showed up at my door. and i am from hickville but that is besides the point i never said anything rude. my friend tried explaining why they cost so much and what stuff they had or whatever. then we left walked down the street and turned around to head back to the car... and you came out of the store and started yelling at her and she yelled back. that is between yall. but when a customer askes a question isnt it your job to explain why and what treatment the dog has had. instead of being rude??
I have read so many negative comments about Dogs on Duval, but I must tell you, my better half and I were on vacation in Key West and purchased 2 female Papillons, and while they did not develop into the highest breed quality as I was expecting for the price we paid, they were and have remained very healthy and they are the most sweet, loving, and beautiful companions. I was reluctant to even get another dog after the death of my last dog who made it to 17 yrs. 4 months. We could not be happier than we are where it comes to my two beautiful babies. Another thing is that I stopped in from time to time while in Key West for a couple of years prior to buying them and I never had a single confrontation or negative experience with the people in the store, they were actually quite polite and pleasant. I saw that the store had closed on my last visit, but I want them to know that I love the puppies that I purchased from them and they have grown to two fine young ladies.
