With the great Fantasy Fest a month away, all who are going need to know that Fantasy Fest is very strictly an adults only (18+ years old only) event! Minors are strictly forbidden at Fantasy Fest and will be turned away. The Key West Police Department will periodically check IDs on all who appear to be younger than 30. Additionally, you must be 21+ years old to have any type of alcoholic beverage at all.

Nice try. That was almost amusing.

Actually, Fantasy Fest is open to everyone.

There is no "check point" to enter Key West.

There is no "age limit" to attend Fantasy Fest or walk the streets of Key West.

Fantasy Fest is a 10 day long festival covering a wide range of events scattered across the entire island. There is no way the police could "regulate" its attendance even if they wanted to.

BTW, There are tons of kids who attend the Fantasy Fest parade. In fact, cute kids get more beads than just about anyone else.

Additionally, the main reason women can walk around topless, or maybe even semi-nude during Fantasy Fest is because Key West only follows Federal laws. While there are laws in Key West, they are quite lenient. Key West is basically a type of place where; if it is illegal here, it is illegal in the entire United States of America, straight from Capitol Hill, and straight from Washington DC. Therefore, any person who gets in trouble with the Key West Police Department has not only violated a local law; that person has also violated a Federal law as well! All of Key West's laws are Federal laws as well, therefore, Key West is one of the very few pockets left in America where the phrase "Land of the Free" has any meaning.

Well, that was a shock! Minors attending Key West Fantasy Fest? I am attending the fest on October 24th and 25th and was only prepared to see adults. Well, in this case, I plan to go as a cowboy wearing a big white Cowboy hat, and for everyone's info, I plan to stick with adults only, especially with my pictures and videos. So, for all of you out there reading this, the Cowboy with the black Sony Hi-8 video camera does not wish to take pictures/videos of or with any minors. And in fact, he may even ask how old a picture/video poser is before posing and/or taking a picture. If you are 17 years old or younger, the cowboy in the white hat will not pose, and he will not take the picture.

The theme for Fantasy Fest this year is Aquatic Frolic, so you might want to do something a little more creative than just a “cowboy” and for heaven’s sake no matter what you do, don’t show up as a “Pirate” either, or they wont let you pass through the entrance gate, which is guarded by Federal law.

Kids are not a common sight during the main events, like the Saturday night parade. But this is still a public event and there is no law, ordinance, rule, nor policy prohibiting kids. Hopefully parents will exercise better judgement and not bring them, but if they do, KWPD will NOT be taking action.

As far as 21+ for alcohol consumption, duh!

Kids and families are a common sight along the Truman Annex area, and near the end of the parade route which is considered to be the "Family Friendly" section of the parade.

The 200 block through the 800-900 block is (obviously) the heart of the party zone, and Marlin is right, you probably wouldn't want to bring infants or toddlers there, not for fear of seeing anything risque', but only because they might get "squished" by the crowds.

Although many parents have and do consider their kids to be advanced enough to handle it, it's not intended for more sensitive viewers.

Use discretion as you would for any adult event.

21+ for alcohol consumption is actually a Federal Law. Yes partiers, the 21+ law for alcohol consumption comes straight from Washington DC, straight from Capitol Hill.

FYI...fantasy fest also has Children's Day at Bayview Park the Sunday following the weeklong revelry. Though it isn't a "fantasy fest" event it's where you can be sure to see many tired and / or hungover parents and their children following a week full of parties.

There is a Haunted House for Children during Fantasy Fest at the state park almost every night except on the night of the parade. Kids can hang out there from 7:30 to 11:00 for $8.00 while their parents take in the festivities for adults.

I think the first few days - Friday, Saturday and Sunday - are "Family Friendly" on the streets.
After that, the "adults" pretty much take over.

Cowboy Man, I like your policy and you can take our photo if you like!
