Jan 18, 2010 | Posted by: roboblogger | Full story: Palm Beach Post

A bicyclist was struck and killed by a car in a hit-and-run Sunday morning on the Rickenbacker Causeway near the entrance to Key Biscayne -- after which the motorist dragged the crushed bike four miles down Crandon Boulevard with at least one other car, cyclists and police in pursuit.

When you have many politicians and police who are a disgrace and couldnt care less about doing their job you wind up with Miami's growing problems one of which is the growing hit and run problem.

I guess its what makes this banana republic so "charming".

In this case the police did all he could do so this individual cop is A-OK but many cops here couldnt care less and the politicians are WORSE .

BTW those voters who reelect the many self serving, useless incumbents are the real problems.
They are enablers who reward low standards that bite them in the butt.

Another hit and run in Miami...very sad. Carlos Bertonatti should rot in jail for this. His selfishness, recklessness and complete and utter disregard for human life resulted in the death of an innocent person.

Bertonatti needs to be jailed for life, but I'm hoping that in reality, he'll get at least 30 years for this. At the very least, it would set an example for other stupid fucks in Miami who think it's okay to drive like maniacs, either aggressively, drunk or a combination of both.

I ask myself why those who can go out and spend hundreds of dollars on drinks @ South Beach are too stingy to pay for a taxi ride home, so they get behind the wheel and put other people's lives at risk from their stupidity.

If you care about this, I suggest making your voices heard to the inept local politicians here. They cannot ignore this problem anymore. What would happen if someone THEY love is killed because of one of these dumb fucking animals?

Oh, Bertonatti is a musician....but now his career is over. Better get him a 30 year supply of Vasoline, since he'll need it in jail.

Like another post mentioned the football player who killed the construction worker and tested positive for alcohol got house arrest.

In a corrupt disgrace to America where money is the gvmt you can never tell what type of plea bargain is made .

In Miami I rather be rich and guilty than poor and innocent because with rich and guilty you have a better shot at walking away.

Local politicians will ignore the problem because voters ignore how useless they are and reward them ALL with reelection.

Miami's problem in the long run are the low standard voters .

Also, drunk driving in Miami has become too socially acceptable. Look at it this way, what self-respecting city would give the keys to thi city to a wannabe rapper, twice charged with DUI himself. It's a sad state of affairs.

Miami voters for some strange reason refuse to open their eyes.

One thing is ethnic pride and looking after your families well being and another is to vote for do nothing, low standard garbage just because they are also Cuban.

These assorted FAILED politicians, officials as a whole dont seem to concerned about the growing hit/run,DUI problem in Miami. Those who continue to reelect them are doing a huge diservice to their own family.

They can be the next victim of this growing problem.

The clubs themselves who CONTINUE to serve alcohol to those that are clearly drunk should be sued and closed down but again with voters who blindly reelect/support incumbents that wont happen.

EVERY mayor and commissioner should be voted out unless RIGHT NOW something is done about this growing DEADLY problem.
Empty speech doesnt cut it.

When I was at UM (longer ago than I care to admit, LOL, I got whacked on my bike by a hit n run on Galloway rd. Another car swerved across traffic to keep me from being hit again and got the lady's license #. when I called to report her, I was told by the police dispatcher that "unless you can positively identify the driver, we cant do anything" I later found out that that was an out and out LIE, the police just didnt give a shit and didnt want to deal with it. That is a BIG part of the problem in S FL.

Many call them the Keystone cops. Most precinct captains dont care because politicians (commissioners and Mayors) dont care.

However in the end neither do most voters for reelecting them ALL and having such low political standards.

This is the only place I have seen an old car with NO license plates at all sit in FRONT of a police car (Sweet water) on a red light and cop did nothing.

I live in Doral and it seems police cant bother actually getting out of their cars and ticketing the huge amount of people who park in handicapped spots in shopping areas.

No handicapped sticker, nothing yet they park at will esp from 5 pm to 8pm.
Speed traps for out of towners now that they are good at but ticketing residents who park illegaly that they look the other way.

"When I was at UM (longer ago than I care to admit,"

Regardless of when you went to school I suspect there are more hit and runs now because the standards in this Banana republic seem worse.

Just driving home on the Palmetto is a terrifying experience. I swear, when I leave Miami, I will never return. Driving here has actually got a lot worse over the last few years.

It makes perfect sense that it gets worse because Miami has some of the most non political ,1 issue voters ,low standard voters in USA .

Some are blind self defeating ethnic voters and some confuse these mostly do nothing, self serving politicians with what the federal gvmt does for Miami.

Thank God for the federal gvmt.

So after decades of doing what they want for themselves and not much for Miami these politicians, officials realize that no need to do anything as they will get reelected.

When its NORMAL for drivers to still keep going through a red light for up to 5 seconds after light turns red than you know you have a FAILED police dept due to failed "I dont give a damn" type politicians.
The only thing to do is vote them all out but most here don't think that way and the politicians know it.

I'm surprised Miami even has traffic lights or stop signs. Perhaps in another 10 yrs we wont.

Well, I'm done with Miami in general. Driving here is a fucking hazard and it's got to the stage where I have to leave, because it's affecting my health. I simply cannot fathom why people drive so recklessly here. It's a shocking disregard for human life and it's not just one ethnic group, it's everyone in Miami, white, black, Cuban, male, female, rich or poor. It's obvious that the reason why this is a problem is that Miami is home to a lot of sociopathic people who are selfish to the core and in some instances, dangerous.

Fuck this piss-poor excuse for a city, I can't wait to leave. Miami is nothing but a steaming cesspool of anger, pretentiousness, selfishness and narcissism. It's not a place to live if you have a sense of morals.
