Haven't seen anything official yet but word is KHS Football Coach Waca resigned on Friday. He must have realized if he hasn't won with the spectacular athletes he's had the last 3-4 years he won't win anywhere. Good riddance.

Chris is a good man, a good coach, and a great teacher. Topix is not the place for this arrogance.

Great athletes? Yes, he's had some but they are all running backs, Qb's, and some defensive players. A good running back can't do anything behind a crap offensive line. Look at the Bears!

He averaged 2.5 wins a year during his tenure as coach. It's his responsibility to "Coach" and develop the line as well as all the other players, Steve. If he couldn't do it he should've brought on a coach to help that could instead of family and old friends that couldn't contribute much.

Nepotism is the wrong way to pick your coaches, agreed. Sadly I think nothing will change with a new coach. The talent pool is a little shallow. And many of the athletes are now playing "futbol". I'm not going to say anything more about THAT subject.

if you think you can do any better go apply It is so convenient to talk from the bleachers. Coach Waca is and always will be a terrific guy, coach and teacher. You have to have kids that want to play, know how to play, are team players to make a good team. The coach is there to guide and I as one feel he did a GREAT job. You will not find a better coach that cared for them boys. He got wins after how many years of not having a one the boys that year were so excited to break that losing streak. I don't think KHS is going to find anyone better. Good Luck to who ever the next coach is.You are going to have some big shoes to fill but you also have to deal with the politics of who thinks they run that place.

The coaches three year record was 10-27. That is enough said. No big shoes to fill. Sadly, a crappy coach that didn't know what he was doing. The problem is that the position doesn't really pay anything. So, they need a teacher to also be a coach. Good luck with that one. Really, they could bring a past player in to do a good job. Suggestions?

No one has said he wasn't a terrific guy or teacher. He is, I agree. He is not a good coach. Your comments about a coach being there to only guide a team is flat out WRONG. Your sadly mistaken if you think these kids get to high school and already know everything about football and need not be coached on anything. Part of the problem is the success the Kewanee program has at the junior high levels and continue to fail when they get to high school. Playing many of the same teams I might add. Politics are present at every school so that comes with the territory. Big shoes to fill? Not really if you're referring to Waca's success. A lot of pressure? Perhaps. But you certainly can't do much worse than 1-9. I welcome the change.

you obviously didn't have a kid on the team or absolutely know nothing about football. Yes we broke the losing streak...look at all the talented players we had that year..17seniors...and some were pretty big, that junior class had some good players and then there was 4or 5 sophomores were brought up...that year was loaded with talent!!!we better have broke the losing streak!.. coach waca is a good man and a good teacher... but a lot if those wins last year was several talented players with the will to win and the heart to get them there! We should've won our play off game last year....those coaches lost that game!!!!ask anyone who watched it. And yea..this school needs to open their pocket book up a little bit more...and spend some money and get a coach in here!.not a teacher,or friend, or relative etc. Get someone in there that knows football and has played.....a good coach can make players into what they need them to be/do...if kewanee would do this and have some success..it would only make them look good instead of area teams/people thinking the football program is a joke!OPEN THAT CHECKBOOK AND QUIT WASTING MONEY ON UNNECCESSARY THINGS...LETS GET A COACH IN HERE AND HAVE THESE KIDS LOOK FORWARD TO GOING OUT FOR FOOTBALL!!!

What UNNECSSARY THINGS is the school district wasting money on. Lets see teachers, books, school buildings, food for students. What other items is money being wasted on? Please list the things the schools can do without.

The salary of the football coaches (and all other coaches) are negotiated in the KEA contract. Coaching at the high school level is not meant to be a full-time job, like college. You can't be afraid to surround yourself with people that are smarter.

I too would like to know what the school district is "wasting money" on.

Unfortunately Bill, in Wacas first year as head coach he split that team up. Moved some of them up to varsity (which , numbers wise, was not necessary), changed the offensive scheme to a veer option attack , and brought in a QB that hadn't played football since junior high. The athletes on the team were not suited to play a power running game and went 0-9 as a result. His second year he had those NCIC freshman champs back together again as juniors , changed the offense back to the way it was and low and behold they broke a 31 game losing streak in their first game back together again , imagine that! And they even did it without their star running back because he was out with an injury. In his third year they made the playoffs but got beat by a much better team that eventually won the state championship , quite handily I might add. In his fourth year he loses all that talent to graduation and goes 1-8..... I'm not on here to knock Waca, I'm sure he did what he thought was best but I'm a big believer in '' IF IT AINT BROKE, DON'T FIX IT'' and well they tried to anyway and the last 4 years are the results. In my opinion if he would of kept that team together the whole way through they would of been absolute beasts by their senior season and possibly made a much deeper playoff run.But that's just my opinion. I hope this answers your question bill and Good luck to Waca in the future and also to the next coach , whoever that may be!

Kewanee is one of the poorest communities in the area and they are one of the highest paid adminstrations. Superintenant and principles over paid. Teachers under paid whoever the waste is at the top.

Admin costs per student are some of the lowest. The teachers pay scale is at the high end. In general, I would agree teachers are underpaid, but when you compare district to district, Kewanee has little competition.

You are correct my friend. It's time to pay the people who are doing the work. What does the egomaniac Dr. do? Yes, Chris you. Overpaid, overpaid, overpaid. Send him packing.

That is the same in EVERY school district, not just Kewanee. I have taught for 30 years, and it's how the system works. I have dealt with, so does the rest of the community.

I think there is alot of money wasted on bussing kids all over town. They live next to a school and we bus them across town to a differant school.
