Word. I don't have either private or public coverage, but the fact is that the Medicaid and Medicare keep the hospital's doors open, as well as doctors in practice. No public aid recipients = no freakin jobs for the nurses, doctors, aides, techs, etc, as well as higher costs for those who do have private coverage. Someone has to pay for that overpriced money pit that wasn't needed in the first place, and without Medicaid, it might as well be private insurance and the patients who have it, RIGHT?
Unfortunately, public aid to people of all ages is a vital part of the local economy. So wisen up, folks. Without them, this town has fewer doctors and grocery stores...

The number of link card and public aid recipients in Kewanee is a direct result of the disinterest of the City Council and mayor to bring anything into this town other than waitress, stock boy,and would you like fries with that, jobs. If we lived in the desert the City would have trouble deciding if they should bring in water. That is how bad it is right now. And, for those of you who chime back and say someone should run for office or volunteer or something like that, the answer is people do. People step forward and the big ego's of this town push them away. So, we will all sit on the curb with a front row seat and watch the train wreck. Wanee Theater, pop the popcorn please.

It makes me wonder what would happen if all of those unemployment extensions run out. Kewanee cannot expect other places like Galva, Galesburg, peoria, Princeton, Spring Valley, and the Quad Cities to proved the jobs that Kewanee residents and business owners need to not only to keep it going, but to IMPROVE. Rent may stay the same, but what about the other 99% of costs? The City leaders must wake up, or Kewanee will soon be nothing more than a community of retirees living on their Social Security and 401k, and folks living on either McJobs or unemployment, and everyone on food stamps, publicly assisted housing, and socialized medicine. Little Chicago? We're getting to be like "Little Detroit!," and Detroit Sucks (Go Hawks)!
Back on tpic, the staff at KPH should have more respect for their patients who utilize their business and WILL ACTUALLY NOT HAVE UNPAID MEDICAL BILLS, and bring money into that black hole waste of brick and mortar. The staff doesn't like those on socialized medicine? How many patients do they think they will be treating if only those with either a good private policy or cash in the bank walked through their doors? How much demand for their labor? Translation: how many of them would still have THEIR jobs?

well i know this is well past the above dates but better late than never so here goes....we were in need of a new facility...the old one was severly out dated but it was the old one that should have been delt with earlier....medical cards r a necessity its just that not as many of those whoe own one need it....if they put half as much energy in getting a job as getting a free ride than we would have a much broader tax base to work frome...and as far as our councel and mayor yor very right..they r lax in bringing in jobs that actually make a difference to our community...once you get into a position of any power you tend to spend more time guarding that position tha working for it! shame on all you enablers....your mamas taught you better i hope!

I know that many people need the medical card to provide health insurance to their families but what you probably don't realize is that the percentage that is actually paid by the medical card to the hospital to cover services rendered is much lower than needed to cover the cost of the services. This causes the cost of services to go up for those of us to who individual health insurance or self pay. So those that pay for the higher cost because of this do get annoyed with the people that abuse it.

So as to why they treat you like they do probably has something to do with the amount of times people with this card come into the ER because their child has a running nose. There are so many people at abuse this system that is is discerning to these workers.

I am not saying that all people abuse the system, but those who do ruin it for those that don't.

THE MEDICAL CARD IS A PRIVILEDGE. SO MANY PEOPLE FEEL ENTITLED TO IT AND OTHER STATE BENEFITS. WHAT MAKES YOU ENTITLED TO FREE HEALTH CARE AND FOOD???? DO WE ALL NEED TO FEEL SORRY FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO SIT AT HOME WATCHING TV ALL DAY WHILE WE WHO WENT OUT AND ACTUALLY GOT AN EDUCATION WORK ALL DAY? KEWANEE IS LUCKY TO HAVE A MEDICAL FACILITY IN THE TOWN. SOMETIMES, PEOPLE MAY BE TREATED LIKE SECOND CLASS CITIZENS BECAUSE THEY ACT LIKE SECOND CLASS CITIZENS. IF THE PEOPLE WHO POSTED THE COMMENTS ABOUT KPH GIVING THEM A HARD TIME BECAUSE OF THE MEDICAL CARD ARE REFERRING TO HAVING TO CALL AN 800 NUMBER TO CHANGE PRIMARY CARE PROVIDERS BEFORE AN APPT, LET ME EXPLAIN A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THAT. PUBLIC AID RECIPIENTS WERE MAILED 8 SEPERATE MAILINGS IN A 6 MONTH PERIOD ASKING THE FAMILY TO CALL IN OR SIGN A FORM AND MAIL IT IN AND ON THAT FORM, THEY WERE INSTRUCTED TO CHOOSE A PRIMARY DOCTOR FOR EACH MEMBER OF THE FAMILY. THOSE WHO DIDN'T DO THAT AND IGNORED THOSE REQUESTS WERE ASSIGNED A PROVIDER BY THE STATE...NOT BY KEWANEE HOSPITAL. AND THEN, THE STATE REQUIRED AS OF OCTOBER 1ST, 2009, THAT ANY MEDICAL PROVIDER (NOT JUST KH)IS REQUIRED TO VERIFY THAT THE PATIENT HAS "PICKED" THEIR OFFICE AS THE PRIMARY CARE PROVIDER OR WOULD NOT BE REIMBURSED FOR SERVICES PROVIDED. NO DOCTOR'S OFFICE OR MEDICAL FACILITY IN THE STATE WILL SEE A PATIENT WHO IS NOT CLASSIFIED AS "ONE OF THAT FACILITIES" PATIENTS" UNLESS THAT 800 NUMBER IS CALLED AND THE PROVIDER IS CHANGED IN THE STATE'S SYSTEM. HERE'S A THOUGHT, HOW ABOUT YOU USE THE INTERNET TO LOOK FOR EMPLOYMENT OR EDUCATION INSTEAD OF BASHING LOCAL BUSINESSES???? MAYBE SOMEDAY THOSE OF YOU BASHING KEWANEE HOSPITAL WILL GROW UP AND REALIZE THAT ALL BUSINESSES HAVE EMPLOYEES WHO MAY HAVE CONFLICTS WITH CUSTOMERS BUT THERE ARE TIMES WHEN THE CUSTOMER CAUSES THOSE PROBLEMS.

OMG...either ur blind or ur nose is so high that u dont get it,,If you havent read the news lately, let me inform u, there are doctors, lawyers, CEO's of large businesses that are unemployed. Fact is 25% of the country is unemployed. To get online to take a class takes money, i sit in the house now with one heater to heat the entire house....so i have a choice, heat the house or take a class that is only given to the priviledged anyway. It amazes me how people who make it through will look back and point their fingers...fact is, if every person went out and lined up for a job, there are still not enough jobs to employ everyone. I find no satisfaction in staying at home, but with now jobs available, what is a person to do??? Another fact is, noone asked me do i want to be born. Health care and food should not be a priviledge but a right for all humans!!!

I didn't say that health care and food shouldn't be a priviledge, I said that the medical card is a priviledge! Big difference. Most of us work hard to put food on our tables and to pay for our health care. I am neither blind nor conceited. I am a mother of 3 children with 2 jobs to provide for my children. There have been times in my life that I have had public assistance but I didn't take it for granted and I worked very hard to better my life and to get off of it. And, if you want to get an education, there are plenty of programs available that provide money for school. If you sit in your house with one heater to heat the entire place, how do you afford to have the internet. I don't have internet at my house because I can't afford it. The frustrating thing about healthcare is that patients with this mentality want everything for free but can afford cell phones, internet, cigarettes and alcohol, fake nails and name brand clothing. Can't spend $1.97 on a bottle of generic Tylenol for their kids but can have head to toe name brands???? My point in this was that while the opinion of Kewanee Hospital may be poor to a few of you, there are alot of people who value the services provided that are right here in town. Those who bash Kewanee Hospital will be the first ones through the doors to get help if they really need it. I saw earlier that someone had positive things to say about some of the departments and doctors at the hospital. Unfortunately, not enough people share positive experiences with businesses. Life is what you make it people, if you try to do the right things in life, good things eventually come. You can't expect to have the world handed to you on a platter and not do anything to earn it.

i agree with u on some of ur points, and 2 answer ur question,,i use the libary and friends for the net,in exchange for babysitting,,and if u have or know of any job,let me know,,but walk in another man/women shoes,,maybe some have had bad luck or mother and father used drugs which made there kids boarder line dumb,i wouldnt bash the hospitol because for me they have been VERY GOOD and nearly every nurse has been uncommonly angelic,,i love this town but something is wrong!! if most of the jobs are part time, then how can one have healthcare(not possible)if u have a job/2,,then be glad and thank God,I would love to have a fulltime job, maybe some are lazy,i cant judge, but i for one say shame on the person in charge of the job situation in this town,,most are hurting and are tired of crying in this town, while those with jobs complain of paying for the unemployed, the lack of jobs in this town is a down right shame,so dont complain about what u have forgotten!!

To those of you who want a job and can get access to the internet, there is a wonderful site to check out. It's www.illinoisskillsmatch.com It takes a bit to set it up but that site will match you to jobs and then notify you on that site on how to apply, that's how I have found my last 2 jobs. I am glad that you want to get a job workforfood. I am glad that you had a positive experience at the hospital. I wasn't cutting anyone down who had a bad childhood or doesn't work. I was commenting on the original entry in this thread which was saying that KH treats people bad if they have a medical card. I feel that is a COMPLETELY UNTRUE statement. You get what you give so most of the time in life if you are nice and you look respectable (for example...clean hair and clothes), you will be treated fairly and overall pretty good.

that is pretty much the truth there are more than a handfull who abuse the services they dont want to pay the deductable in the dr office or they simpley want immediate gratification...i dont know about you guys out there but i cant afford to go to the er because i do work and because my insurance premiums r so high and the payout is lousy i cant afford the health care unless something large happens. then i have a hugh deductable to meet. those with the card would not know what it is like to worry about everything you work for so you trim where you can and health care and needless visits to the er or dr is one of them....our great granmothers use to give birth in the morning and laundry and supper that afternoon....sometimes you want to say suck it up!....as far as being treated poorly I dont believe it....i mean really how many true emergencies end up in the ER? I am guessing not many....i am guessing it is used more as a clinic and that can be frustrating to...so try walking in their shoes if you dare i know there are those who need help but please how many of you dont....get a life please so those of us who work and help can maybe get a break to!

Anybody that lives a parasitic life on other people's money has no dignity. Sometimes, circumstances beyond our control make it necessary for short term survival, but it was never meant to be a long term career the way some use it now. Our society currently punishes those of us who produce, while rewarding those who only re-produce.

Please do not use your past as an excuse for how you act now. It drives me nuts when people do this. I grew up in an extremely poor and abusive home; no one expected me to go any where. I should have ended up in a much worse situation than I currently am in; but instead of surrendering and blaming others for the way my life turned out I took responsiblity and made my life what I wanted it to be.

Also the majority of the people that live in town that have jobs travel, so if your going to live in this town be prepared to travel for your job. Its all about making it work until the economy picks back up......its not just our town that is suffering look around everywhere is.
