this is the third post regarding kewanee i've come across so far. all are about drugs/users. can anyone tell me what kind of town/environment neponset is? i'm thinking of moving there and searching the internet for good and bad reports. this blog came up (and two others). i understand kewanee is very near and full of drugs/users. is neponset full of drugs/users also? if you had 3 kids/family would you move to neponset in your opinion?

Moving,

Most of the threads you see involve drugs/users because the Kewanee Police have stepped up the pressure. There are many good and solid citizens that live in Kewanee. There are also many great neighborhoods in Kewanee to raise kids. Personally, I have two kids that go to Kewanee CUSD #229 (north side of town). There are 2 public school districts in town. The south side is Wethersfield. Kewanee is a bigger district - has a larger curriculum (especially in high school). My kids aren't there yet, but I have been very impressed with their education so far (7 and 5 years). Neponset is a very small town. They have a K-8 district. Their high school as deactivated and they send the high school kids to either Kewanee or Kewanee Wethersfield - the kids choose. Only drawback is you will be running to Kewanee for everything you do.

citizen,
thank you so much for your reply. i keep trying to read up about neponset and can't seem to find anything regarding the town. love the fact that it's sooo small. i have 3 kids (17boy, 14girl and 9girl). reading the posts in "welgot" and "kpd" have me freaking a little because that's where my kids (older one's) would be attending. i feel much better hearing your reply. i am still now (since your reply) considering moving there. i am currently home schooling my kids b/c of nearby town trouble i wish to keep my kids clear of. home schooling is sooo hard and i want to be able to breath peacefully making a good choice on moving. thank you kindly for your reponse.:)

If you want your kids to get college prep classes, consider moving closer to a big city. Kewanee doesn't offer enough good classes to compete with the big schools and your kids will be lost in college. I loved my high school years but the education and choice of classes is just not there.

High school is what the students make of it Kewanee has a larger class selection than most schools in the area. Yes it might not be as large of a selection as Peoria or the Quad Cities but how long has it been since we had driveby shootings like the larger cities have had. Kewanee is a great place to raise your kids People here still have basic values and there are a lot of concerned adults trying to make the community even better. Your close to the larger cities for your needs that Kewanee can't meet But it is still safe to go for a walk at night without fear of being hassled

I had about 30 kids in my graduating class. I went to college, did alright and even graduated. My school prepped me just fine. You dont have to go to a big high school just to succeed in college. Obviously who every you are you did not apply yourself while at KHS. It can happen.

from what i understand neponset sounds like a little gem off the beatin' path, thanks for your replies. Kewanee sounds like it has it's share of issues but nothing like the major cities from what i understand. our family is going to be moving to neponset by the summer. i know this is probably a sore subject (hopefully not) but i have a high schooler (9th grade girl), which high school (since there is none in neponset) would you suggest is best?

I always wanted to stop in when I seen them on East st. at the old car lot. But i am one of those who hate to try anything new in fear that I don't like it and I've never heard anyone talk about it. Chicken sounds so good, oooooooooo maybe even a bbq chicken that would be so sweet!

o hey moving....neponset girl here!!! I been here in Neponset since about may and I love it. It is such a small town. The kind that everyone knows almost everyone. As far as the k-8 school I thikn it is great. It is a smaller school, I think maybe 80 kids on a good day lol my kindergardner had 10 other kids in his class and all the other classes are smaller too. Youll love it. Have you started looking into places to live yet? Are you looking town or country? There are currently 2 placed right around my area(country about 5 min from town) about 10 from kewanee!.

The guy with the stand in that car lot is not Charlies Barbecue. You gotta go over to the street next to Casey's to get food from Charlie. Two totally different people.
