there is absolutely no excuse for animal cruelty.if this woman was unable physically or financially to properly care for her horses she could have sold them, give them to someone who was able to care for them properly or call the authorities at any local humane society or the aspca to relenquish custody in order for them to be properly cared for.i live in this community and as atax paying citizen am very tired of seeing these offenders slapped with a fine and in some cases given back the animals.it is time for our courts to send amessage that if you own animals you have a responsibility to care for them and treat them humanely.to bad instead of a fine we can't force her to go without proper food and care, however we are forced to treat offenders with more respect than they give the animals.since she had been investigated before it stands to reason she does not need to own animals.poor quality of hay doesn't cut it.her observation of the animals{if she checked on them regularly}would have told her they weren't getting enough nutrients from what she was giving them.what a waste.i they all recover and are sent to loving homes where they can be cared for and hopefully learn to trust humans again .ialso implore our attorney and judge in this case to punish this crime with more than a fine.

I helped care for several of these horses... One has been fighting for his life for days. HE can't stand for more than 2 or 3 minutes. He wants to live so bad and some piece of trash had him locked in a stall in 3ft of manure helpless. This needs to go further than a fine. This is the second time animals have been taken from this person. She needs to be put in a cell (or stall), and starved for several months herself. It is time for our local court system to take a stand to this type of abuse.

The stallion i mentioned died three days later. He fought really hard but it appeared his digestive system was already shut down. The other horses have improved. This was not the first time horses have been taken from this individual.

Doesn't she still have some at her house? I know they took several, but I don't think they took all of them. If she does, do the authorities check on them?

Who can I contact to help some horses in Carlisle County? The owners are in Mississippi and NO ONE is feeding them. They have left a crappy old bale of hay. That is all these poor horses are getting to eat. They are going downhill. Don't tell me to contact the law enforcement here. Already did. They DON'T CARE and won't do squat. There are four of them on about 1 1/2 acres.

Here in the state of KY we have a serious problem with horse abuse animal control in most areas won't take on horses. They say and I quote "they are not pets what do you want me to do". We can put them down." We don't have an organized rescue group like SPCA or what you see on animal planet. Also it is estimated right now by the Forestry Department that over 150 head of horses are free roaming in LBL they were turned loose during the winter by owners who could not feed them and didn't want them sent to slaughter in Canada or Mexico. The forestry's solution to this problem has been to quietly shoot them drag the bodies to a remote area and let them rot. Since this is Federal they are denying everything and keeping their practice on the down low. The problem we are seeing in Paducah with this rescued few horses is barely the tip of a very large iceberg there are smaller cases occuring all over the state that are unreported and unprosecuted and are never dealt with because it "cost the county to much money ". And it's just a horse we don't have the facilities". We nee help down here with this erious problem because it is getting worse and if you don't believe me take a drive.

Kim, as a last resort you could maybe call the news station or the paper. If the horses get some attention maybe the authorities will feel some pressure to step in and help.

The court date for this terrible tragedy is being held tomorrow (August 26th)at 9am. The person who abused these precious animals is claiming "not guilty". We need to be there to represent the horses and do all we can to help protect their future.
