What is wrong with this guy! I was a Scout growing up we never heard of anything like this.He gives Scouts a bad name.I work with children everyday, such as working in a school system,4H,Church,Scouts,I was always taught never put yourself in a position to have a problem. Storys like this makes me ill.

There is a reason you didn't hear about this growing up. The boy scouts, are just like other really large institutions of authoritative child care. Like churches, boys clubs, ect. They had to be Forced lawfully from the federal government to give up their really huge list of people doing these things to many, many children and now they put out a press release saying they are always in full cooperation with helping any one being hurt like this? Yet again, another company sweeping things under the rug to avoid lawsuits and bad PR. Just because an institution begun on good intentions, never, ever completely trust every individual in it. Complete trust, with the tens of thousands of lawsuits actively going nationwide, would be completely idiotic.

I agree, innocent until proven guilty. The questionI have, if it really happened, why would someone wait all these years to come forward....

Back in 2008 I signed my son up with Daves troup. 3 Monday night meetings at the Moose Lodge and I know he was a fruit cake. Son and I agree it was time to go. Glad we did! Very sad to know this has happened. May each and every child rapped up in this mess......god bless you

I knew there was a reson my son did not or shall I say I would not allow him in the troop/keswick districk stonypont ruitan club. Went once and he was there and he invited my son to go on a camping over night trip that following friday night, glad we said no. Thoughts of him being a "perv" were right on target. Cut his nuts off!

Please keep the Stony Point scouts and the Stony Point Ruritan out of this discussion. This man volunteered with the Keswick Troop - which also shouldn't have to suffer because of the disgusting acts of one person. Rest assured that all BSA parents are horrified about this. Prayers go out to the victims and their families.

ok people remember Innocent until proven guilty. If he's guilty, hang him by his noogies, if not, make sure the public hears that story too.
I'm sorry, but if a person has never molested anyone - why would a cloud of suspicion even be over your head in the first place? Where there's smoke, there's fire.

Well if it DIDN'T happen, why would anyone come forward at all?

happens alot, look at the Elmo guy, John Travolta, others I just can't think of. I would think its safe to say most accusations end up being true but some are just that, accusations. Can't imagine accusing someone of this if it weren't true. The whole situation is horrible, for everyone involved.

All of those who are talking about why this individual didn't come forward until now, shame on you. You have no idea the abuse that this man caused, and this is a very hard thing to deal with, especially as a 13 years old. Most people that this happens to don't come forward until they are adults. It is the psychology behind the abuse. Besides, it doesn't matter when this person came forward, what is important is that the abuse took place and we need to take that seriously.

As a Scout leader, I am horrified by the actions this person is accused of doing.

I would like to point out that Scouting has a youth protection program in place that requires "two deep leadership" at all times. Simply put, no scout is to be alone with an adult leader other than their parent or guardian...no exceptions. In our organization, we require ALL parents to take the training so that they know the standards that we are held to and be alert to anyone not following those rules. Someone has to watch the watchers.

If you have a son involved in Scouting, make it a point to attend leadership meetings from time to time. NEVER be afraid to speak up if you see something that does not look "right", and by all means, go to the BSA site and take the Youth Protection course ASAP.

If more parents are aware and watching, we can guard against these vile predators from victimizing our children. Scouting is a great organization that teaches boys the timeless values of self reliance, hard work and respect. I beg of all parents to stand guard with the adult leaders against these evil doers.

You knew he was a fruit cake and you walked away? You didn't say anything? Express concern? Speak up? No, just after the fact you admit something was wrong but did not say so...while a young boys were being harmed...nice.

Evil will grow unchecked if good people simply do nothing.

Investigations take awhile to complete. There are a number of interviews that have to be done and gathering enough evidence against someone doesn't happen over night. You have to realize that these investigations are completely different from what you see on TV. Investigations can take days, months, and sometimes even years.

I would think that a victim coming forward would be enough evidence. Especially when the crime happened years ago and probably without any witnessess. i do get that crimes are not solved in a 60 min tv show.

They were rich and famous, which means possible motive, yet highly unlikely. What would the motive be to involve this guy?
