Slug lots come to the Lake. It works in DC for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is that most of the commuters have security clearances so you can be reasonably assured you aren't picking up a murderer, or getting in the car with a kidnapper. Also, the HOV lanes, which Rte. 53 doesn't have, are a huge incentive in DC for picking up strangers. My jury's out on how local commuters will regard the safety of "slugging" or whether there is sufficient incentive here for people to adopt it.

Guessing maybe for funding and construction/maintenance of a Park & Ride lot.

Don't let the school people near it! They will build a 20 story parking garage for 1500 cars!

I think this is a great idea. I'm interested to see if it turns into a "slug" lot, or if it just gives carpoolers a central location to meet. I think it will primarily be the latter. I think this will make a traffic light at Turkey Sag and Rt. 53 a necessity, however.

I think they are right about the commuters who park there will be good for the business,,If you want a haircut, nails done, want to eat,or look at empty stores on that side of the road,,but then again you could go to the Food lion ,if you need something. Maybe this will give the BOS the idea to let some other business come to the area to help with taxes for Fluvanna,,,NAH,that idea would help the people of FLuvanna and the BOS would never stand for that.

We're so spoiled here. In Europe if you want to drive your Bently downtown you have to pay a fee for commuting in urban areas instead of using mass transit. Of course we have no urban areas to speak of here but any effort to reduce traffic flow is good. That said, we all see where people park their cars for hitching rides into town, most haven't cost the city or county a dime, they just find a place. Same could be done here without the county having an excuse to get its nose into it.

It's a voluntary ride share program, which has nothing to do with anything you've mentioned, including your moniker.
