Well, Hell. Remember when all pistachios came from Iran. They'd been died red and turned your mouth and fingers red real quick.

This is what we need more of, government action that protects our own economic interests.

We're flooded with cheap imports that are cheap for two reasons: 1) low quality, 2) low wages. This is allowed because free trade is somehow a good thing for us.

That's a load of hooey, I say! The reason that all of those companies moved their factories (and jobs) out of the USA is that they could make more money by locating their production elsewhere, in places that don't have things like safety regulations and a decent wage. Then, they ship their crap back here for us to buy. The end result? We lose jobs, and end up with a trade deficit, all so that people can buy cheap foreign crap.

We need to put import tariffs on many if not all imports of products made by companies located outside of the USA, to make it less attractive for companies to do this. Other countries have figured it out, and do this exact thing to bolster their own economies.

Set a minimum percentage (60%?) of administration and production that must be in the USA for a company to be considered an American company and avoid the tariff.

The end result? More money in our coffers, more jobs within our borders, more American products in American stores. In other words, a stronger economy.

Globalism is not helping us. It's dragging us down to the level of most of the rest of the world. We used to be on top for a reason -- we put America first, and took pride in making quality products. We need to go back to that philosophy if we are going to be great again.

The motivation for this was far more to hurt Iran than to help the American farmer...the latter was just a most likely unintended by-product

This cements America as the dumbest nation on earth.
The rhetoric has always been that these are targeted sanctions against the Iranian government yet this targets the rural community of Iran where the government has greatest support.
This action will strengthen resolve against the criminal US.

Not to fear for there are plenty of markets for Iranian goods.

Despite Iran's attitude towards Israel, it holds strong commercial ties with the Jewish state, in the form of export of its fine pistachio nuts to Israel through Turkey.

Well, why don't you just go ahead and state the obvious?

Someone needs some advice today and you're just the person to give it. Wait to be asked, though! You'll be able to draw on your experiences of life, and you might also throw in some spiritual guidance for good measure. If you have some spare time you'll enjoy immersing yourself in a thought-provoking book and then discussing it with someone who's on your wavelength.
