Anyone notice the condition our mall is in? If not... Go inside take a walk around. You will find buckets of sitting water, catching the drippings or should I say floods of water coming through the roof. There is a handful of stores and to get to them you must walk around these buckets. There is black mold inside the mall as well. Walk toward the old JCPenny building. You can smell it and you can see it through the windows. Several establishments have already moved from the mall due to the fact that the owners refuse to fix this problem. I know that city code requires a person to keep their properties up to code. If my roof had a hole in it and the water was coming through...You better believe Mrs.Mahoney would be on my rear to get it fixed. If the money and funding isn't there to fix it then the mall needs to be shut down until further notice. Not to mention the parking lot. If your not driving a 4 wheel drive you may want to proceed with caution. This place should be declared unsafe. What would happen if someone young or old is walking through the mall and some of them soak and wet ceiling tiles fall on them? If someone falls in one of the giant pot holes in the lot? Or worse case...Someone dies form mold being in their lungs? In the old driver license station, the walls are covered in mold and is visible from the outside. Next door is a Karate Studio. How smart can one be to have a Studio right there thats filled with mold? Them folks are breathing death and don't seem to know it or even care.

I can't agree more. I was visiting Keokuk and was doing some shopping and to my surprise. There was one "real" store in the mall. I asked my husband what was going on in Keokuk? My hometown is NOT at all what it once was. The condition of that mall was just unbelievable. I'm not certain who owns it now but I can say that they are doing a poor job of maintaining it.

If someone would fix that place up and get it up and running again. We may actually stay in Keokuk to shop instead of taking our money elsewhere. Get it together people.

I agree with all of the above. At first when I found out we were moving here. I was excited to find out there was a little mall in town. But then I went in it! HORRIBLE!

It's very embarassing when family visits from out of town. I almost always refuse to take them around Keokuk. There's limited shopping and then we have River City Mall. In my opinion it should be called River City Dump.

Shannon Zetterlund, you really need to get it together and get something done to that mall. The floors are horribly covered in dirt from lack of cleanliness. I don't like to go inside the mall but I enjoy movies. Therefore I must walk around the buckets and deal with the unruly teenagers that are in that place on a Saturday night. Theres skateboarding and alot of craziness on a Sat. night inside the mall. I don't know where the security is but I rarely come across anyone over seeing the mall. I have had to call local police myself due to fights in the parking lot after a movie. I would like to see that place change hands. Maybe the next owner will be a professional business owner and own up to their responsibilities.

I don't think you should have put the owners name on here. She may be having struggles and can't meet the needs of the mall right now. So please don't judge her. I am a member of her and her husbands church. I don't like the way the people on here are talking bad about her. If you see a need maybe you should meet that need. If not then be quiet. Thank you very much. Concerned

Zetterland put all her money into a failed venture for a beauty padgett which she lost. She needs to dump her worhtless husband and start her own church! The problem with this mall is it is in Keokuk! Another one of Mrs. Mahoneys failures. If she had been doing her job right from the start Keokuk wouldn't be in the shape it is now. Just look at the building that collapsed on Main Street. This is all Mahoney's fault!

How can you say this is Mahoneys fault? The problem is NOT the city of Keokuks but that of the property owner. Which happens to be your girl Shannon Zetterlund. You mentioned her starting her own church? How can you say such a thing? This woman can't even manage a business let alone have her own church. Speaking on the "church" lets talk about the condition that place is in. Anyone been in there? There are a few buckets sitting there too. Wonder if their home has a new roof. Because their church building and place of business obviously does not. David your post makes no sense at all.

Sounds as if you are covering something for that family. I encourage you to take a walk in the mall. Better yet if you are a member of their flock, maybe you need to check out the condition of their church building. Isn't your Pastor Jay Zetterlund on the Main St Keokuk committee? He of all citizens should put a boot in Shannons rear to get her going on the repairs. The mall is on Main St, Is it not? He is her husband is he not? Aren't we supposed to submit? He is her Pastor right? Something is wrong with that picture. He should be trying to help her in her endeavours.

I don't understand why the owners don't sell out. If someone buys that eyesore and does some fixin it up. Then our money will be spent here at our mall. I remember the time that it was full of stores and restaurants. Now it's just a building that needs condemned.

I really don't understand this town. Between Roquette air, the mall's mold, the rivers drinking water, and the Keokuk police dept. I have to ask "Does anyone that lives here care what the hell is going on?"

I heard by the way that she has filed for BANKRUPTCY! I have seen stores moving out in just the last few weeks! Anyone privy to this?

I have personally seen the security staff at the River City Mall escort youth from the building that could not abide by the rules. This is a small percentage of those that spend time there. In my opinion the city provides nothing for teenagers to do in Keokuk. The Music @ The Mall business concept draws teens from 50-60 miles in all directions on Saturday evenings to listen to live bands. They have been approached about franchising their business in larger cities and have been recognized as one of Iowa's best music venues and have appeared in many magazines and newspapers. Keokuk does have some bright spots ... you just need to wake up and open your eyes - and ears.

I have noticed the party shop moved and the coin shop is next. I heard Zetterlund wants more rent money. What does she think that place is worth? I required about setting up for a craft show for my wife. But that so called secretary has never returned a phone call. I ask to talk to Zetterlund and that brod is always busy. Busy? Doing what? How the hell do you expext to get business lady? We decided against setting up in the mall after going in and seeing first hand the condition it's in. NO Thank you.

I personally know of a dress shop that had a business in the mall (they moved to another state because of the husband's job. She sent out 400 letters to junior and senior girls for a prom dress fashion show. She offered the same dresses found in larger cities for the same price (save on gas and time). Only a handful of girls showed up and the person who won the grand prize was in her 60's. That's a shame. The people of Keokuk do not shop in the mall. It is much more fun to go to St. Louis, Chicago, or who knows where. I have more people in my place of business from out of town than that live in Keokuk. Shame on you!!!!

Also about the floor and the maintenance people in the mall. That floor is scrubb every night! The amount of dirt that comes in shows how many people walk in the mall. The security people do the best job they can with what they have. If you think you can do better - come and show them how to do it!! I'm sick of people complaining all the time. Be thankful for everything we have - you could be living in Haiti!!!!!!

People are not moving out because the rent is being raised. They are moving out because even when the roof didn't leak Keokuk people did not and do not come to the mall. All they do is gripe!

Your posts make no sense... You stated that the floors are mopped every night? HA Tell that to someone who don't work inside the mall...They may believe that! And you stated that the amount of dirt shows how many people walk in the mall. Then you want to say that people did not and do not come to the mall...Make up your mind already. State facts not what you think you know!
