Why in the world is there ongoing meetings to discuss the closing of Mildred Dean or Fourth Street Elementary Schools. Is Newport sitting on a pot of gold? Declining population dictates only one viable answer. Close them and save money. Sowinsky states they all three can fit in one building.

I just got the flyer and I will be there too. Enough of spending money of those people that "will pull their kids out" if they don't get their way. I say close Mildred Dean too. Send your kids where you want to, it is your choice. It is not your choice to spend my money on empty classrooms.

I plan on attending. NIS cannot afford to waste any more money. Close Mildred Dean if they can fit into another school.

Mildred Dean is something to be proud of. It is a great school and doesn't have the problems the others have.
And you want to close it, You people have no clue or are just really dumb. That school works ,so shut it down, you should all be ashamed.

Mildred Dean is the shinning star of the system, that is why they want to shut it down, jealousy and because MD's test scores make all the other schools in the district look bad. In a nutshell that is why people are screaming to shut down MD.

It's not the school building that makes the difference, it's the combination of administration, teachers, parents and kids.
If all the elementary schools are closed, and then reopened under one roof - no matter where - there's going to be a shake-up in the admin, teachers, parents and kids.
The result could be interesting.

We all know exactly who owns that land and why they advocate for the schools to close and a new one built.

It's not to save tax dollars.
It's to line the pockets of a board members boyfriend with money.
He owns the land in question.

The land around vet's pool is owned by: individual land owners on Kentucky Drive, Caroline, and that other small street and the City of Newport. The Kroths already sold their land to the City, but I suppose they still have some around there. Then there are about six private landowners on Kentucky, not to mention the ones on Fredericks.

Nope. Just someone who happens to know who owns most all of Grandview and Truesdale.

Name the ONE PERSON who owns "most all of Grandview and Truesdale." PVA website doesn't indicate that ONE PERSON owns all of that. There seems to be at least 24 owners.

That is a not viable land to build a new school.

The new school needs to be located in the urban core.

Mildred Dean is the ONLY school in the district that uses all their space! Mildred Dean is the only "crowded" school. Mildred Dean is also the only school that has not been remodeled in the last 30 years.

Daily Horoscope for December 24

Aries

Christmas Eve finds you happy and eager to get the most out of the day. You're in a rather sentimental mood, so if you've got time you'll relish the chance to watch a favourite film, especially if it means you've got to get out the hankies. A friend's kindness or sensitivity will delight you - and make you wonder how you can reciprocate.
