Ohio law says judges can not incarcerate users because of jail overcrowding. Dealers are another story. A landlord will not loose his property simply because he has mistakenly rented to a drug dealer. He will however loose his property after repeatedly renting to drug dealers and allowing dealers to stay in the property after law enforcement has taken the proper steps of notification. There are properties in Kenton that are busted over and over again for dealing. Several landlords have been notified and their response is that as long as they get their rent they know nothing. You folks can disagree and cry all you want, this law WILL hold up in court if enacted here. It has withstood appeals in all the states where it is on the books. This place is being drug into the modern age. Also if you do not know, opiate addiction is rampant all over the US, not just in Hardin county.

IDGAF, let it withstand the appeals. I as a Landlord (I'm not) would take my undeserved lumps. Then, in a seperate court case I would sue the people responsible for letting these people roam our county and all the monetary damages I had incurred. Forget the appeals, totally seperate case.

This borders on a money making scheme. The County encounters roaches, slaps the roaches on the big toe. The County releases the roaches, they get into the apartments, the Landlords have to pay money or property for harboring the roaches.

If roaches don't belong in apartments, then they shouldn't have been let loose anywhere near the apartments, they should be housed in appropriate cages. Whoever let them lose should be held liable. It ain't brain surgery.

That dog won't hunt. You are comparing cockroaches to deer ticks. Both are nuisances but one is worse than the other. Matters not wrong is wrong regardless of what you and I think.

Deer ticks don't have big toes.

It's the same as drunk drivers. They are accountable for their own actions up to a point. After a person gets numerous DUI's then the court is put on notice, WE HAVE A PROBLEM HERE. If the driver is continually slapped on the hand and the drunk driver eventually kills someone, the judge is liable for turning the drunk driver loose on society.

so how do you determine they are drug users after you rented to someone and they dont get busted for 6 months? you kick them out and you put more renters in there and 1 yr later they get busted...so what are you supposed to ask them on a resume if they are drug users?

The topic for discussion is about DEALERS, not users. Big difference even if you don't realize it. Also even when law enforcement can't bust a dealer for various reasons they still know who is selling what. It is time for crooked slumlords to be held accountable for their profit in the drug game also.

Good luck trying to evict someone that has kids and you have no proof they are dealing drugs. just your assumption and signs that it may exist.

WTF you think is gonna happen when the courthouse is a revolving door. Rehab programs are joke. Probation that doesnt work.Your republican throw the book at em folks realize someone has to pay for incarceration!=taxes and nobody wants to pay em. So lets go after landlords. I thought all vermillion was worried about was hiding in bushes in 35mph to 25mph zones!

They "know" who is selling what. I pray to god they aren't going to give notifications to people based on what they "know". Is that what you are implying?

Making money off the drug biz is a slippery slippery slope. We certainly don't want Law Enforcement sliding down that lucrative little hill. If they were to start confiscating property based on what they "know", they are no better than real drug dealers.

Thanks for winding me up, I think I "know" who I'm voting for.

How will we be notified? They have raided tenants of mine before but I never had any idea about it because I was never notified.
I do believe it's just a way for them to pass the buck because they fail to do their job by not keeping these junkies in jail OR SENDING THEM TO MANDATED REHAB. They're more likely to be taken back in by their own families coming out of REHAB as opposed to fresh out of jail. I also believe that this will only increase the amount of street and neighborhood crimes we will experience. They can't get money from these junkies so they're going after us. Personally, I say kick out the junkies and let them sleep on the courthouse steps then they can deal with them personally.
I hear that they bust some junkie then offer them like 3 balloons to snitch on someone else then the circle goes on. If this is true then they are only complicating the problem.
