There is a free food drive tomorrow morning in the parking lot beside the fire department. There are no income requirements. Food is available for anyone, but please bring a box if you have one. You also need a photo ID or proof or current residency. If you aren't in need of help, but have time to volunteer please stop down. We will start setting things up around 7:30 a.m. and the line will start moving around 9. We would like to be finished up by 11 a.m. Hope to see you all there.

I want to thank the people who run this program and volunteer. I have a brother who gets food from this service and a few people i work with . They are very thankful for what they receive. And it relieves me to know my brother has food on his table. Thank you again.

Make sure you let your brother know the food drive is tomorrow. Hopefully he will be able to make it up there.

The food drive was a success. We did run out of food this month there wasn't the full amount of food delivered. Food drive will be next month also on Oct 15th. As of now it will be at the same place. If it is cold, it may be moved and I will provide info. Thank you to everyone who came out today and the wonderful JROTC from the Kenton Senior High. Those kids were GREAT! If you attended the food drive, and have suggestions for next month let us know. Thank you.

why dont u guys with the food drive food box it up like u do with christmas box so when people sign up its quicker and easier, im sure local places would give their boxes that they just toss out, i know its a little more work but i mean that way u dont have to worry about anyone getting shorted or giving 1 person to much i mean its just a thought that way they can sign up and u guys could already have the box ready. just a thought im not trying to start anything just curious and asking i've never been to a food drive since i have kids i dont want them out that early so i was just asking

Maybe you should just have them cook it and deliver it also??
You could also have them stop by and get you a carton of cigarettes and a 12 pack of beer. You want them to do your laundry while they are at it?

It is not our job to judge those that come up to receive the free food. It is not income based project. I try to keep in mind when thoughts like you stated run through my head " he who judges others is only judging himself" It is our duty to provide, not decide who is most worthy of the help.

I agree, but if they go to the churches they have to listen to a sermon and be prayed for, if they ask love inc. they get turned down because they are not a relative of a board member. It's probably the least hassle for them.

We have been throwing that idea around for awhile now. Making the boxes up ahead of time is much easier. There are too many people who are in the line that are greedy and try sneaking things off the tables and other people are upset because these people are taking more items than they should. It is impossible to make everyone happy, but that is a wonderful idea and I appreciate you sharing it. It is something that is being worked on. We need to try to find a place to donate boxes that are all the same size (so there is nobody saying so and so got a bigger box). If you know of a place who may be able to do that, let us know. Again, thanks for the suggestion. They are all welcome.

Why don't you try talking to Wal-Mart. They're always willing to help the public with things of this nature. Maybe they could donate boxes that are very close to the same size. Just an idea.

Perhaps International Paper would donate boxes? Just a little info for those that complainined people were talking on their cell phones or smoking, etc. This food drive was NOT based on your income. It was for anyone that wanted to get food. I will not hold it against someone because they have a phone. I think everyone should have a phone, especially for emergency purposes.
As far as boxing up the food, I think that's a good idea. The people at the front of the line got 4-5 cakes and 4-5 bags of bread and pizzas while the end of the line didn't get any cakes and 1 or 2 bags of bread. It is a great thing that the center does for our community and GREATLY appreciated. Even if you have a decent job, by the time you pay a house and car payment and utilities and gas for your car, you don't have much left for groceries.

How many boxes do you need and what size?

It varies on the number on a monthly basis. To be safe I would say 150-200 boxes. As for size I would have to double check the next time the board meets the size they want. As for the food drive yesterday, you are correct the people at the beginning of the line did get more cakes and bread. The food drive are still in a trial and error phase. Last month there was a ton of food left over and had a hard time finding a place to store it. I personally think that the people in the beginning should only get 1 of everything and if there are left overs at the end the people in the end should get a little extra because we always run out of something that the end people miss out on. I will suggest this again. There won't be a board meeting before the next food drive, but I will bring up the suggestions to 3 of the board members and at the food drive. The boxes already boxed up won't happen until there is full board approval which means there has to be a meeting first. Again, thank you for your suggestions and please keep them coming.
