There are plenty of 'good people' in Kenton. Problem is they don't make the headlines. They are your neighbors, the people who hold a door open for someone, the ones who help those in need without recognition, people who just smile at you in a store without knowing who you are.
I beleive there are many more good people in the world than there are bad. The problem in this town is, we only hear talk about the bad.
I can think of hundreds of good peoples names to list here, but then they are subject to being bad mouthed because a few people may not like them. I will never post a good persons name on this site.
Good post though.

I agree there are plenty of good people in Kenton, but I will spare putting their name on topix!!! This thread is trap in IMO. It may not be intentional, but still you throw names around and mud starts flying.

As for posts about positive things there have been a few, threads. "Lets post all the good things that go on around here" also there is one titled "a positive thread" I think. Problem is none of them stay on page 1 because people make their own instead of contributing to the other threads.

I am not trying to attack you just trying to give some insight.

I'll even throw out a name for yah: Marie Price

I know I put this before, but Marie was one of the most amazing women I have ever had the privilege to meet. Marie was a school teacher for 35 years, volunteered at the hospital full-time for 40+ years after she retired. Then at around 100 she had to go to the county home, where she continued to volunteer 40 hours a week in the laundry for a few years, before they made her cut to part time. When I met her she did about 15-20 hours a week and she was 102!!! Not sure how old she actually lived to, but around 105.

Why did she do this. Best answer is it kept her going. Also Kenton City Schools, got money from the state for her work, not really sure how that works, but thats what she told me.

I can name many good people from Kenton's past... Vance Leonard , Justin Burkey, John Jester, Ralph Kissling are just a few. There are still many that volunteer and do so much behind the scenes... I was involved at a rather young age with many groups in Kenton, Most people do not volunteer till they are retired and need something to fill the days. Younger people need to get involved and meet these types of good people. If you know anyone from our community that has given openly without enough thanks... post a thank you to them... Who do you remember going over and above what was expected ? I am not talking about someone that gets paid for it... someone that does it from their heart!

How about the park commissioners that take care of boy scout lake? They've made a lot of improvements out there over the last couple of years. Some of the things they have done, dog park, walking path, replacing a shelter house, and more. Those people are all unpaid.

I knew Justin before he passed away and I never heard a negative thing come from his mouth. He was a great man and really enjoyed talking to him, not to mention he landed in Normandy on D Day and that he was awarded the purple heart. What a great guy!

Give thanks to the teachers the make a difference in our childrens lives.

The social workers, and public assistance officials that are helping so many people right now.

The nurses and doctors offices that go out of their way to help you or your loved get right in.

Thank the vets and policemen for protecting our freedom and safety.

Thank the farmers for growing our food.

Thank that one person you know will always be there no matter what time you call.

Thank the people who go above and beyond their duties to help you. No matter it be unloading your groceries, only fixing what needs fixed on your car to save you a buck, or staying late at work so you can get home to be with your family.

Just be thankful for the good people you see each day.

I couldn't agree more about Justin Burkey, he was awesome. I remember one day in elementary school, my kitten followed me to school. I was so scared to leave him outside because I thought he would get hit by a car and both my parents worked so no one was available to come and pick my kitten up. Mr. Burkey was the custodian at the time and said he would keep my kitten in his office for me until school was out. I stopped in at lunch time to check on him and Mr. burkey was petting him and had a little bowl of milk there for him. It doesn't seem like a huge deed to some, but to a 7 year old girl that meant the world.

When you mention teachers please remember the support staffs that are in our schools...the bus drivers, secretaries, educationa l aides, custodians, and the cafeteria .Without these people as a foundation to our schools, the teachers jobs would not be as easy. I feel we have VERY dedicated people in these positions that go beyond the call of duty many many days !!!THANK YOU support staffs!!!
