my whole intention of this thread was to bring light to the subject that it is against the law to pass a school bus when lights are flashing. Comparing someone passing a car or truck on the right is in no way a comparsion to passing a school bus. The chances of a young child being there is very slim. But the chances of a young child darting out from a bus with flashing lights is very possible. After all these buses are there to pick up and drop off kids safely. My only intention was to help to make people aware of how serious it is to pass a bus when the lights are flashing. I for one do not want to see anyones child get seriously hurt or killed because of someones lack of respect for our school buses and I for one do not want to have to live with my wife if this happens to any of her kids. There is nothing so important in life that you can't take time to insure the safety of young children. No phone call no excuse for being late no excuse because it takes to long to load or unload a child. Some may think this is stupid because there has been no serious acidents but what happens when it does happen? Please if you see someone passing a bus help out and report it after all it may be the life of a friends or family child you help to save.

Until the childrens safety is more important to the local law enforcement folks then watching for speeders downtown, nothing will happen. I liked the idea proposed earlier that a few offices either sit on the bus and take lic numbers or follow in unmarked cars. Once people start seing these types of tickets in the paper along with the name of the offending driver, not much is going to change.

I hate to be a "I told you so" type but the minute a child is hurt getting on or off the bus, all of a sudden it's going to be... OMG we had no idea" with the local city and county leaders

you are so right our officials could care less. just a week ago a women in another state passed a school bus with flashing lights, she actually drove up on a busy city sidewalk to go by the bus not only endangering the children getting on the bus but anyone using the sidewalk, the judges penalty was she had to fix diner for the bus drivers and stand on the sidewalk holding a sign telling how much of an idiot she was. didn't really sink in as the showed her standing there with one foot on bench with a cigerette hanging out of her mouth. But I guess if it's okay for our officials and judge who don't care enough about our children by contiuning to fine repeat drug dealers $50 and community service for selling to our children on school property then why should we worry about one getting run over guess donuts coffee at jumpin jims hiding to get speeders and being social at elks is more important Our tax dollars being put to good use

Agreed on all.
Wasn't that "idiot woman " a repeat offender?

yes she is and because of her lack of concern the city officials there are trying to get a law passed where all violaters go to jail. At least they understand the seriousness of this.

I agree with you Lonnie. It's a serious problem now but just wait till our famous school board builds that school in the country (well only if they can find a way to trick people to build that new road). Because of the stupid location almost all children will need to be bused(another expense not included with new school)meaning more in town buses with kids crossing streets increasing chances of injuries. Let's hope our officials consider our kids safety.

ok, i didn't read all of the posts on here because the spelling errors give me a headache, but the bus drivers at the high school scare the pee right out of me. I pick my duaghter up, and they come around the corners wide, without stopping for oncoming traffic. I thought the stop sign laws applied to all motorists.....maybe I am mistaken, but I think they should have to follow the same rules that I do.

Just to let you all know, it looked like a bus hit the hardin county council on aging bus today, as it turned from the road by the tennis court onto the high school road. For any of us, it would be a turn signal and stop sign violation.
