All very good points but I am looking for growth and competitive wages the only way to achieve this is more jobs, and yes you can find a job for 7-9 an hour and have nothing or we can push to get more industries and more business which in return makes for more money it is simple it really is! Plus it makes are community a lot more enjoyable to live in! Gives are youth more to look forward too and maybe they would live a little closer to home! You never know may help with lowering the crime rate just a touch.
You identified the problem, how do we do it?

I would start by taking a group of well informed citizens to the Monday night council meeting and state that this is what we want. What can we do to help? There is nothing to wait for no one in the Government is going to help us. There going to tell us that they have tried this and that and done there best that is when we say you are elected officials and your telling us this is all the better you can do than maybe you should step aside and let someone better qualified or someone that is a bit more motivated to take your place it is just like anything else most people want to be the boss without having to do anything to get there or take any responsibility when something goes bad! That is where I would start and if that failed from there we would keep moving up the ladder until things started to improve! It is 2013 and there is a lot of powerful tools to are disposal media, internet ect ect. Something not right here and we need to fix it. Just drive around and look at the sidewalks and no curbs, old street signs it is horrible and embarrassing!

starting point would be to make residents clean up their properties don't have to have fancy landscape just keep lawn nice and paint where needed. 2nd do something about the horrible streets in this town. 3rd clean up buildings around the square, making our community more desireable would be our best start. And offer large tax breaks for interested industries, we had the opportunity to get some years ago but did not offer any incentives we can't afford to make that mistake again

That would be be very helpful as well. I have read that some communities have pushed for residental code enforcment. It is hard to tell people to clean up there place when (the city) is doing nothing about its properties (streets/sidewalks)!

Yelp kenton needs jobs--but with the people running this town you will never see any here.
I'm surprised International Paper is STILL HERE.
And while we are on the subject--Kenton needs
resturants (a decent place to eat) Henrys,Midway,
Filling Station--not much to speak of. Filling Station you have to back in and drive out,Midway
cost to much($3.50 for a pancake etc)Henrys every time I've been there they seat you in the dang bar--who wants to eat meals in the bar and they cost to much. Thats why we spend our money out of town--nothing here--the reason Wal mart does no leave is because they have no competion and Kroger has all the people to shop for food. Ace is way to high.
So spend your money out of town--not in Kenton--yesterday gas was $2.81 in Lima. I went to Lima to eat in a good resturant and got my gas there.

My family goes out of town for a lot of things. We seldom buy clothes in town, we seldom eat out here, and we don't do activities here.

Adding new restaurants will not change anything if Kenton doesn't offer/have other things to go with it. My spouse and I, or our family go out to dinner on weekends, but we don't just go to dinner we go bowling, skating, movies, Lowe's, Hobby Lobby, etc, etc. So even if say Bob Evans was here, my family and many others would still go out of town because kenton has nothing to do.

last two threads are completely correct. Our resturants do leave alot to be desired. Our skating rink was closed and owner will not sell because of all the trouble they had there, the bowling alley is a total joke owners don't care about people, they are too high priced and never offer any discounts for family bowling plus their never open. The town has stopped all community style activities for one stupid reason or another. Industries good paying with benefits where you can support a family (tatoo parlors are not) looking to relocate look at all these things

What businesses want to come to Kenton with such high rates of theft, heroin, and meth? Fix the crime first and then businesses will be more likely to come.

I think that there are some good comments on here. I would be willing to go to city council, and to see if they can offer help to homeowners, business owners to clean up the communiy. I am also going to try to get funding for a real family center here. We need a place where parents can take their kids, hang out, play some games, eat, maybe shoot some pool or play air hockey. Something that ties families in this community together.

I have always found this technique to be useful and beneficial to making improvements. Make sure to have a list of potential ideas to get the ball rolling.

What Tax incentives are they giving companies. I see Kettering a number of years ago now has large call centers. What is Kenton/Hardin county doing to promote itself I do not see anything. Spend the $$ and hire a great marketing firm to build a plan and execute the plan.
