It is time we as a community put pressure on the people running this town to look for ways to bring in and support new business and growth.

Well there is plenty of places in town for rent or sale that would be great place to start a tattoo parlor! I would be asking the city officals if they have any way to help with start up costs and or tax reduction!

I've got an associates degree in the medical field. im well spoken and presentable. I'm articulate. I dress well and have transportation. I went for an interview at H&R block last week and spoke to an employee. It was promising, especially sice I had 6+ months experience in a related field, working in the phone and with customers all day.
I didn't get the job. Why? Probably because a friend or family member needed it. Experience and education don't necessarily mean anything. So unfair.

I know how you feel. I am having a hard time finding a real job, stuck in the temporary service rut for life it seems. I have eight classes to go to have a degree in accounting, and still have to settle for crap temp factory jobs. I keep looking and trying, but really feel there aren't any real jobs around here.

i found out after i got my degree that the closest place i could find a job in my field was Columbus and thats just not in the cards. Thats if I even got hired down there... a million interviews, no jobs. very discouraging. i refuse to take anymore factory jobs.

We need to invest money in the city to make money, plus it would be nice if half of Kenton wouldn't be on drugs

I don't think big factories are in our future if this city doesn't clean up. However we have a great city for small businesses, IF the people of this city actually supported new/upcoming business. But it doesn't.

I remember when I was a kid, and I had a paper route, anytime a new business would open up downtown, I'd make a bet on how long it would last before it shut down. The biggest reasons it would shut down is 1 ZERO community support, and 2 the rent downtown is too high for a new business. Sure the prices aren't bad for already established places like dominoes, verizon, etc, but they're too high for new ones.

I've made that bet for every single new business that has opened since then. I have only been wrong about 1, and that would be jitters.

Honestly ask yourselves, if you were planning a new business, where would Kenton fall on your list of places for the best chance of success?

If the Wind Mills ever decide to come are way that may help create a few jobs. I look at where Kenton is located and logistically since majority of companies look at how they can ship there products not in a good place due to really no 4 lane major roads. Kenton does get alot of truck traffic from US 68 and ST RT 31. With a Rail Head Spur now maybe we can get some warehouses with trucking companies that will utilize this. What I can not understand is land is really cheap here and cost of living is low insurance costs are good with having a full time Fire Dept why no one will start a company here in Kenton? Other than logistics you have it made paying employees 13-18 /hour is still well below anything in Columbus or any other major city but would work well here for Hardin County!

Life isnt fair. If I were you and I really wanted or needed a job I would probably be looking for one instead of complaining on topix

No one is whining just want to make for a better place to live! I have a damn good job. I see alot of other people trying and working there butts off for little or nothing. I do not care who is in office. You put alot of pressure on them in ways they have never seen and things start to happen. Its not going to be an easy fix but if WE can stay together and make on voice it works!

yes, Kenton needs jobs. But most in Kenton prefer to collect assistance rather than move somewhere or leave Kenton to make any money. So no money gets brought in the town to spend at any local businesses. There is no motivation here to create anywhere to work.

Thats a really good point! Maybe a good way to create revenue and jobs is to start building in the right places in Kenton for example instead of having everything out on sr67 maybe start having place build or start on 68 or 31 so you can start getting out of town money! Like a mojor truck stop. Truckers like food, fuel and entertainment and its not like they dont have a job so theres a start for out of town money! Thats how we have to think busisness in Kenton. Put Wendys out there beside Taco Bell it would lose half of its revenue!

Well let’s just all sit around and sing Cumbyya, won’t get anything done but we’ll all feel so much better.

We need leaders that won’t try and make EVERYONE happy… If we need layoffs in government, then we need them, if it means looking outside to lower costs for some services, or just cutting staff hours then that’s what we need. Do you REALLY think there is no waste in city or county government??? Are we really getting the biggest bang for the buck from ALL (operative word) the people who work for us?

As for the feds, nothing we can do there till we fix our own table..

And yes I would run, but can guarantee that I would be impeached my first year cause I don’t believe in sacred calf’s…

If you want jobs MAKE jobs. There is this thing called "the internet" you know. Even when I was unemployed I still made a living with the internet.

If you don't have a job then it is truly your own fault.

All very good points but I am looking for growth and competitive wages the only way to achieve this is more jobs, and yes you can find a job for 7-9 an hour and have nothing or we can push to get more industries and more business which in return makes for more money it is simple it really is! Plus it makes are community a lot more enjoyable to live in! Gives are youth more to look forward too and maybe they would live a little closer to home! You never know may help with lowering the crime rate just a touch.
