Nice folks out there. A little pricey, if you go to Findlay or Lima you can save a few bucks.

I have used Cooper in Findlay and Sam's in Lima and been pleased with both price and service.

It never ceases to amaze me the logic of a 40+ mile round trip to save "a few bucks". There's no way I'll be convinced that the money saved is more than the cost of gasoline used for the trip.

In theory,I suppose there are some hybrids that can make the trip cost efeective, but most of the vehicles in this county won't do it.

Also consider the fact that buying locally keeps sales tax money & jobs in the area.

You can always tell who the deep pockets are on the board. Must be nice to have all the money you can use. Me... If I am going to go out of town for say.. TIRES....I combine the trip with several other errands like grocery shopping, clothes shopping, a movie, dinner out, should I go on, or,,,, since you know it all is that enough.

I agree with Bert. The local shops are good for a tire plug, or emergency, but why on earth would anyone shop locally. Drive 30 miles and save more then enough to cover the gas.

Tax money and local jobs?? LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

I bought tires @ sears in findlay to save a few bucks. A couple weeks later I had a flat and took it to borns to see what was wrong. Sears didn't change the valve stem. So you may be saving money by going there, but after you have them change the valve stems (which borns does for free and seaRs does not). The price is actually better @ borns. Also the service at borns is great. If you have a problem with your tires just go back and they will usually take care of it for free

A 40 mile round trip at 20 MPG will take about 2 gallons. At 2.99 a gallon thats about $6.00. It's going to take a long time for a hybrid to make that cost effective. I agree, save your time and spend your money locally.

I usually buy my tires used at Brim's, but they are good trustworthy people at Born's. I would rather spend my money there and know they will take care of me after the purchase than, go to some big box store in Lima or Findlay that could care less.

If you compare the Quality of the tire Borns is superior because of service... sure you may buy a cheaper tire somewhere else , but when you compare apples to apples they just can not be beat. I also have another reason for using them... I had 4 sons, when they were young and on bicycles they would stop there to pump up their tires, the guys there always had time for a kid. They even patched their tires before at no charge... This is about the closest thing to an old time business practice for miles around. If you do not understand tires, ASK them they will explain .... Not worth the drive to Findlay when the best is in your own backyard!!!!

I can afford to buy tires anywhere and any brand I want. I challenge you to find comparable tires cheaper than Born's. I can get tires at Employee prices for any Cooper Brand (family that works there), and Born's is always cheaper. Usually the tires you find cheaper in Findlay, Lima, Bellfontaine etc are shit tires.
Borns is upfront about their pricing and just sells you what you went for, a set of tires. And it supports the local economy. Ask the guys out at Borns to tell you about the "warranty" on your tire and they will tell you what the period of coverage is and then they will proceed to tell you how worthless it actually is.
Most of the "tire retailers" are pushing LOWER QUALITY tires that they get a bigger margin on because of special deals for moving volume.

My family has a lifetime in the tire industry. Do whatever you want, but I would go out to Born's and buy any domestically produced tire you can find. There are lots of places where buying foreign is fine, but tires is not one of them yet.

Two things first

1. Not a Kentonite, a transplant, so I will go slow so all you locals can understand me and I will speak in your native tongue, gibberish.

2. Never mind, you wouldn't get it.

I have visited the local establishment in question and while the people where VERY nice, I was concerned about the condition of the shop and office area. I have always been of the opinion that a workplace sets a tone. If owners take pride in the business, keep it, themselves and the tools of the trade clean and well kept, one can USUALLY take it that they take pride in the workmanship. And vice versa.

I did like one of the other posters had suggested. I went out of town to a reputable (not saying the establishment in question is not) tire distributer and bought 5 (that is 4 for the car and 1 for the spare) new tires. I have been to the same dealership 3 times since for other vehicles I own and have always been satisfied. I also saved enough on the trip to by a nice lunch and a few other items..

Again ..... The folks at the establishment seemed nice and were well informed. Just not my cup of tea.

As for the tax and local jobs post???? You're kidding right?

Again just so it's clear, NICE FOLKS....nothing personal.
