I was curious to know what the job duties are for this position, and what qualifications are being considered. Just because someone worked for the city would not make them qualified for this position. My supposition is that the qualifications are more administrative and knowing how to work with people to be able to get things done properly, not just bossing people around. I would also suspect that this job is going to require some creative solutions in order to meet what needs to be done. Most roads I've seen fixed has been done by state direction, not by Shaffer. So many of the side streets and alleys look like war zones.

i HOPe that the new mayor and the new safty service director will help bring a STRIP CLUB to downtown so we can have good paying jobs like the big city. this town has lost so many jobs over the years because kenton has no GO-GO joint.

Mr. shafer was responsible for filling in the pot holes in the city. Go down East Carrol st. shaffer didn't do anything good for this community. Look at when the snow is piled up on your streets. The only streets that got plowed was the ones that the state did. My street didn't get plowed for weeks. The $50 dollar reconnection fee from the water department needs to go away. I'm sorry, but their hours are from 8 to 4. If I drop my water bill off at 7:30 and it still gets turned off is uncalled for. When I called the water department they informed me that the water bills that are dropped off in the box are collected at 7:00 am I still had to pay $50 to get my water turned back on. I was driving down Eliza street last winter and hit a pot hole. Funny that the city was there the same day repaving this street. According to this guy nobody reported this road or these potholes. Really then why was the city there repairing the street? I had to pay for the new tire not the city. Even though by the time I went down the same street to pick my kid up from school it was getting repaved. According to Mr Shaffer, unless someone else reported this pot hole I hit then the city isn't responsible. Fire his ass.. Please Mr Manns go down each and every side street and get them fixed. It cost me 120 for a new tire.
The water tastes like shit. Fill up your glass and see what floats to the top. Our trash system sucks. We have to pay $5 for trash bags for 4 bags. plus the city is getting money for our cans and glass. Uncalled for. For each one of our commissioners and mayor that voted this in I hope you fry. Stop taking away our rights as US citizens and allowing us the freedom of choice.
The police in the city I used to live in would notify the police dispatcher about potholes, burnt out street lights and other maintenance problems they would see while out on patrol. It was one of the dispatcher's duties to add the items to the list and fax it to the appropriate dept. head. It only makes sense since the police are usually on every street in town at least once per day and notice these things.Maybe the KPD is already doing this?

That is an awesome suggestion! If Kenton doesn't already do that, they should see about implementing it.

Mr shaffer doesn't return you calls. I was the person that dropped my water bill off at 7:30 am and got turned off. According to the water department even though their hours are from 8 to 4 it depends on when the guy collects the deposit box. I called this SOB that is over the water department and he never returned my call. I had to pay $50 to get my water turned back on. Are you joking me. I can drill a hole in my back yard and get better water. Still can't find the laws for the city of Kenton. As far as I'm concerned I can raise cows and pigs in my yard. There is nothing they can do to me.

KPD doesn't do anything. They sit in the same spot everynight. No busts are done. They couldn't even find a robber if they ran in front of them.

if people would stop skipping out and not paying their account, the deposit should be trippled, cant run a dept on overdue bills.

I hope the city does away with the trash company they currently use and go back to local people. I am tired of the trash falling out of bins and not getting picked back up. There is enough trash in Kenton without them adding to it. Let local people have the job back!

i am well qualified for the job<<<<<< <<<<<<< ist thing that needs to be done, since the overweight trucks are ruining our streets, collect a toll from every truck,. then when the streets are all repaired, beg the state to build a bypass, then we could shut down the kittie citie, build a go go joint in the old dealers, with free coffee and donuts for k. p. d.,bring back the vigilantees, dont need the k. k. k. enough hilljacks here unemployed, everyone would have a job, 4 sho 4 sho. kittiecitie could have a bingo tent, man what opportunities awaits the city,.///////

I paid my bill. It just so happened that the guy that picks up the payments you put in the night deposit box picks them up at 7am. If you drop it off after that time they don't look in the drop off again until the next morning. Some people work from 8 am until 5 pm. So they have to use the night deposit box. I thought since the water department didn't open until 8 then I would be find dropping my payment off at 7:30. Not true. This town is nothing but a joke and makes up their own rules. So sorry that me and my husband moved here. We use to live in Chicago and decided to move here because of family. Now we are trying to get the hell out of here.

I'm tired of my neighbors trash coming onto my property. I don't like picking up after them. Thank god they are using birth control, but it is sickening to have to pick it up out of my yard. I for one as a residence of Kenton stopped cleaning up my property. I refuse to pick up other people's trash. The sad thing is that the woman that lives next to me works for the courthouse. Her trash is all over the neighborhood before trash day.

Ron Schaffer did a lousy job as safety service manager. He was good at sitting in his office collecting a pay check while also collecting retirement checks from ODOT. Calling Schaffer about road problems, traffic problems, etc was like talking to a wall. He was good at excuses, but not any good at finding any solutions. The past mayor was of the same pattern, lots of dodging the issues yet showing up to have his picture taken at various events. The new person for the job needs to be someone from outside the city to give some fresh insights into how to solve the problems that Kenton has. Ingrown applicants are already in the "we can't do nothing about that" mindset. The only way Kenton is going to improve is to utilize fresh thinking, and that is not coming from within the "good ol boys" circle in Kenton.
