A teenager drowns in front of his family and all you s---heads can do is mock them? Pathetic. It amazes me that you consider yourselves to be "real" americans and above the people you scorn. I hope Karma gives it all back to you tenfold. A terminal illness maybe...and all your nurses and doctors Latinos, blacks and "foriegners". Can onl;y hope...

This was a FIFTEEN year old CHILD and you are talking like this? OMG! You should be so ASHAMED of yoursefl! I hope that you never have to suffer the loss of a loved one during their childhood. You are a despicable, disgusting person - I say lets ship out people like YOU to these countries & let the illegal children stay. As an American citizen, I am embarrassed for your horrifying disregard for life. You are disgusting.

Show some class people, nothing was said about the victim or his family being hispanic, latino, or illegal. As for those of you that challange the speed of our first responders, nothing was said about how long it took them to arrive at the scene, searching a river takes time, rescue crews responded quickly and worked fast. these are the only people that our willing to help you in your time of need and aside from the police they do it free of charge. feel free to post your phone numbers if you need further explanation, or better still stand up and stop by a fire house and become a volunteer in nm.

a great thank you to all involved, as well as prayers to the family and victim.

Please think before you speak or print people,if you are american like I am yes I to have a problem with not being in this country the right way but this was a child and my sister happened to be at New Milford hospital when the mother had to go in to her sons room and she heard her bloody screams... As a mother my heart goes out to her my sister knew when she heard that something was very wrong.I pray for the mother the whole family, but my sister said she was well dressed and spoke english and it was not broken,so just maybe they were in such shocked they were toung tied...

I can't believe the way some of you people comment. Here is a 15 year old, innocent child who's life was taken from his future and family at such an early age, and all you people can do is judge them in a negative way. Have some compasion for the family and this boy's soul. Or better yet, why don't you try to walk in their footsteps right about now, you might come to see they are human and have feelings, unlike you heartless people. Weather they are legal/illegal, spoke english or not, that is not what the story or the issue is about. I see you have no morals and your parents didn't teach you well. If you have nothing nice to say, then stay quiet and let this family grieve in peace. Imagine to have something so tragic happening to you, your friends or family members, then to come on here and see the critisism you people put on here on top of what your already going through. To the family of this child, I feel for you and hope you find peace with in yourself.

1) noone deserves to die like that. Put 25 people in one place at one time (not even factoring in radio traffic) and communications is an issue. Blaming the incident on any kind of language barrier is like blaming a world wide cell phone black out on a single dead cell phone battery. Its just silly.
2) being a participant, I can tell you that every single member of every single rescue organization did a superb job. that 90 minutes is NOT how long it took for each agency to arrive on scene, that includes dispatch time, first unit arrival and size up, requesting the necessary resources, assembling said resources, travel time, briefing, set up, deployment, and THEN finally searching for, recovering, and providing medical care.
its just not a simple thing to find someone in a constantly changing environment that requires specialty equipment. residents should be grateful that there are dedicated rescuers professional and volunteer alike willing to endure anything necessary to effect such a rescue.
that we could not get to him sooner is a great upset that deeply affects us all. I do wish we could have done more, but I rest assured that every person on scene did an amazing job well above and beyond what anyone could possibly expect from them.

For all of you who are sitting there behind your little computers, typing your disgusting, ignorant and hateful comments on this article, God help you. If you ever find yourself in any situation like that, I only hope that someone else won't be so low like you and say the same shitty things that you all have been saying after you have just lost a child, or your sister, brother, or parent. Think before you speak, have respect for the people around you, because if it happened to you, I'm sure you wouldn't want to be treated that way.

As for the family, I'm so sorry for your loss.

Americans are not ignorant they are fed up with this bull*&*&. The river has signs posted in both English and Spanish not to swim or light camp fires. I hike the trails all over this area and see the people picnic there and leave there trash! Secondly I grew up a few short miles from Squantz Pond and had friends work summer jobs there. I would share their stories but the disgusting details are not allowed on here. I clean the trash from these "fine city visitors in the park and the state forest that it connects to. How sad is it that a DOT road sign needs to be posted on the board of NY and CT stating Squantz Pond is closed. Parking lot full. Why do they do that? Oh history lesson is needed to the newly arrived liberal idiots. Until they did this these people would clog RT 39 after the parking lot was full so the RESIDENTS who PAY TAXES here could not even drive due to illegally parked cars up and down the road all the way to the center of New Fairfield! Let alone make it impossible for the park life guards to protect the swimmers. The facilities could not take the over load of use the result of that is the stories I can not describe on here. Take a survey of how many surrounding town residents use that park anymore during the summer. I can assure you the total number on the weekend is less than 1%. There are a lot of good immigrants in this country both legal and illegal getting a bad rep due to the ones who refuse to assimilate to this Country and refuse to respect it. It is high time for those that do want to be here to step up to the plate and do the right thing. Let the disrespectful in their ranks know it will not be tolerated by any one.

--Hendrix said. "One of our biggest problems was the language barrier."--

You mean EBONICS OR SPANISH ??!!

The kids think they are getting a bath in a big tub and don't know how to swim to begin with.

They said swimming but he was wading in and washing his underarms when he hit the deep part.

What do you expect the outcome to be ??

I think what the chief ment about a language barrier is that the family didn't know how to speak "toothless drunk hillbilly". The native language of New Milford.
