Please, Capt. Mrazik, the department did it's best in this case. The town, state and federal government should not feel badly that there was a language problem. Sorry, but it's not just foreigners on our shores who disregard the no swimming signs or prohibited areas. People who were born in this country die every summer when they go in water they shouldn't be in after not obeying the signs. Of course just like everything else in life noone thinks the worse is going to happen to them and when it does the families are left to grieve. Read and obey the signs. Water is not forgiving. When you make a mistake you pay for it.

The first reports of this said that they boy went in to the river north of the power plant. That area is not restricted, nor are there signs posted prohibiting swimming there in any language. In fact there is a parking area North of the power plant for the convenience of people who want to get close to the river. There were at one point signs warning of swift currents and sudden changes in water levels. The only area that is restricted near there is right at the penstock and power plant that is posted No Trespassing. That is downstream from where this happend.

One issue not adressed is if this kid knew how to swim. The spot he most likely fell in is known to local canoers and Kayackers as Geroge's Hole. At that spot, just below the public parking area the river narrows and takes a sharp turn over a rock ledge creating high waves and accelerated current, great fun for experienced paddlers but not without peril especially for the non-swimer or someone taken by surprise.

That area of the Housatonic is dangerous and I believe there are signs warning of the slippery rocks near the covered bridge.

How dare anyone blame the first responders who risked their lives on the rescue. If you read the article, it says that it was 90 minutes before the victim was REMOVED from the river - not the response time.

The article states that the boy fell into the water "near the Kent-New Milford line". The Kent-New Milford town line parallels the Housatonic River for about a quarter mile so searching in that much of an area can take time and with a river current, even more time. It's a rough area of the river.

The friends and family of the victim are rightfully upset, but this was an accident. They shouldn't be upset at the responders or at the property owners - it was an accident.

If they don't want to make this boy's senseless, maybe they should take up a cause to educate others about the dangers of the waters. Maybe that would help prevent accidents like this.

To all of you who believe that there was a language barrier, let me tell you that you are mistaken. I know the Adames family and they all were born or raised in this country and they all speak, read and write perfect English. Only the people that were present know what really happened. I do not understand why Former Gaylorsville Fire Chief Lee Hendrix said that "one of the biggest problems" in responding "the emergency call was the language barrier."No one from the Adames family had said anything about the police not responding soon enough to the emergency call.
