i think that the smoking problem could be easily solved (for employees) with this... instead of having a smoking booth by the Praxair Cancer Center, Pulmonary Parking lot, and in front of the Duracell One day entrance, put it in the basement of a parking garage or something. just so the patients and their families don't see these medical professionals smoking in front of them. being an employee at DH, i could see nothing wrong with that. if i choose to smoke, then let me smoke. i am entitled to a 15 minute break and a half hour break for lunch. what i do with that time is none of anybody's business. it's a nice thought that you want the employees to choose a wiser habit to latch onto, but people are addicted. yes, they are offering a few options on how to quit, but in reality, you have to be ready to quit. i wont quit because someone is shoving it down my throat that smoking is bad. i KNOW it is bad. shouldn't have started yadda yadda.. but let me quit on my own terms. working in a hospital is a stressful environment, especially now that you MUST cover up your visible piercing (with a band aid no less) and visible tattoos, but you must quit smoking while on the job. you don't like my habit, then walk away or kindly ask me to move it to another location.
if you are going to be a patient here at DH, then expect some cranky nurses, doctors and techs because i've seen some of these people without their nicotine and they can get pretty nasty.
Besides, the hospital has more problems than worrying about the smoking ban on all campus grounds.
