Therapies for Hardcore Smokers

Now appearing at a mall near you is "Blue," the latest electronic cigarette, a smokeless nicotine delivery device.

If it is only nicotine that is delivered, the dose will have to be higher to maintain the same level of addiction. However, taking away all the other poisons can't be a bad thing.

I don't see this as becoming a huge thing, but if it does there are some definite downsides.

It could result in some people continuing to smoke who would have quit completely if not for this "halfway" option.

By continuing the nicotine addiction and the association between relief from withdrawals and the ritual of smoking, it does less to break the chain than other methods. While nicotine gum keeps the nicotine flowing (while the user theoretically closes the floodgate) and has some side effects of its own, it makes the struggle a more private one, easily taken away from social settings that encourage smoking.

Also, by mimicking smoking it continues to keep cigarettes in the public consciousness at a "normalizing" level.

The cigarette companies have to be loving this effort, if they aren't secretly funding it to undermine more likely cessation methods.

By mimicking smoking, the e cig normalizes vaping smoking...that just drives you nuts, doesn't it? The cigarette companies, but more specifically, the drug companies HATE e cigs because they do what neither of them have ever done with any success: provide a way for smokers to enjoy nicotine without harming themselves or risking anyone else's health as you claim to be the goal of denormalization and anti-smoking. More specifically, it cuts the profits of your beloved gums and the killer Chantix...and that is a VERY good thing.

I should add that I have used an electronic cigarette for almost a year now. I had no intention of quitting smoking, but I was interested in cutting down the number of cigarettes I smoked simply out of habit. It is an extremely effective and enjoyable experience that surprisingly led me from a pack a day to one cigarette a day. I did not mean to go that far with it: it just happened. Now, the anti-smoking tyrants at ASH, and organization partially funded by the drug companies are DEMANDING that the e cig be banned. It has the potential of seriously damaging the profit line for Pfizer and their NRT's with a 1.7% success rate. Don't ever let anyone tell you that ASH is about health. ASH has fully exposed itself as greedy hypocrites with their demands to the Attorney Generals of all 50 states to ban the e cig. ASH wants smokers to return to smoking so that they will continue to have fortune and power as well as purpose.

Supper Glad to hear you have cut way back on you smoking. While i really don't have any idea about the long turm use of your e-cigs, i do know you are not getting all the toxic tobacco tars down into and coating your lungs. That is good. Best to you-JC

Well, the folks at ASH are demanding that every state attorneys general ban e cigs. So, should they listen to that lunatic at ASH, I will be back to the Marlboros the same day.

So once again you would let others make up your mind as to what you would do? It's not that many years ago that a group of people didn't like the way they thought they were treated. What did they do but burn down their own homes & all the food/drug stores around them.

What you will find is that most of us who are anti smoking are NOT anti e-cigarette. We simply could not care less about it.
