I totally understand the concerns, but a few comments speak of Montgomery County as if it is immune to the changes of society. "This is Montgomery County" and "I might as well live in DC" are statements of ignorance about the totality of an area and fail to benefit the purpose of the posting. With the changes in the economy and the desperation in some areas, crimes have increased but is that any different than the white collar crimes that also plague our country?!
i love it

I lived at Castle blvd for 6 years and the crime reate is geting worst from time to time. One time, I thought it was safe and was waking with my wife around 9 pm. While I was woking, two black guys aprouched me from the back with a hand gun to robe me and my wife. They pull a gun at me demanding to give them all whatI have including my phone.Lukly, I scape and managed to call 911 because I thought I can get help from police imediatlley. However, the 911 call frustraed me by asking somany questions while I was at gun point giving time for the rober to scape on foot. Inded, Castle blvd is not a safe place to live because of the section 8 housings.

Rent goes up, crime goes up? I thought it would be the opposite... Rent up, crime down because higher rent means less broke thugs can afford to live around you.
yes you would think so...but thats montgomery county for you. My girl lives wit her aunt in briggs chaney. i've lived around coleville my whole life (5 miles from briggs) and have watched the area get nastier every year, but someone the price of living keeps raising like it does everywhere in Mo. County...theres a reason we call in Mo Money county. i know i'm late on this comment, just happened to see it while searching the web. it in no way is as bad as alot of areas in D.C, but deffinetly not a desirable place to live anymore like it was 10 years ago

Been interesting reading posts all the way back to 2013 calling safeway, the un-safeway, wow....totally right on. Nothing much has changed. Moved here from Pennsylvania and while Castle Blvd is bad, I have to say, the majority of the DC Metro area is horrible unless you have a lot of money. The ratio of bad neighborhoods to good is overwhelmingly on the bad side.
But Briggs Chaney is just terrible, really reminiscent of southeast DC....They just put up $300,000 townhomes that are situated right in front of the terrible apartment complexes, they've been finished for months now and nobody has bought them (GEE I WONDER WHY?). Earlier this year there was a murder right near the Windsor Court apartments that was connected to a 8-murder over 5-day Montgomery County drug war.
It really is astonishing how bad the crime is throughout the DC Metro area. You can blame it on gangs, welfare, drugs, whatever you want....the ends don't justify the means. DC/MD/VA around the nation's capitol is crawling with hoodrats & thugs wherever you go.
Briggs Chaney could be an amazing place to live. ICC/Beltway right around the corner, some very nice land sprinkled throughout the Burtonsville area. The people who live here are f***ing scum. Period. My building on Castle Blvd, the thugs that live here continuously break off the security key fob and leave the door propped open. I've seen homeless people sleeping in the stairwell at night. I have to work late sometimes, I'm practically RUNNING into my apartment and locking the door. I have installed my own security alarm until my lease runs up and I am FLEETING this hellhole.
Hopefully will be moving to Bethesda which is the most normal area I've seen since I've moved here. I work in Maryland so it makes no sense to live in NOVA which I hear does have some nice areas in Pentagon City/Alexandria.
But all of you who have posted over the past few years. NOTHING HAS CHANGED and ITS PROBABLY GOTTEN WORSE. Briggs Chaney may as well be Southeast DC.

Have to agree with John - this place sucks. Haven't experienced much of the crime personally, but other neighbors have told me stories...(I live in the Woodvale apts, formally Castlegate, and had a few other managements before that.) This place has switched hands at least three times since 2004, that I know of. I was wondering why they built those gaudy, eyesore town homes up Castle Blvd - they actually expect people to move in there?! lol. Good luck! Many of the apartments in my complex - and I suspect the other two complexes as well - are EMPTY, and yet the parking lots are full of cars. More cars than people. So now the rental office's implemented a new policy where you have to get a permanent parking sticker for your car (I refuse to DEFACE my car because of their incompetence). They have to know the license plate #, color, etc., and you're only allowed (1) temporary guest pass that only lasts 48 hrs before you need another one! I'm wondering whose bright idea this was... a resident should be allowed one permanent guest pass, not something temporary. But that's how ridiculous it is here. They have to do this bordering on Big Brother clown act because they don't like what the people already paying out of their ass are doing?? Gimme a break! They might claim it's for the 'safety of the community', well, I say bullocks. Most of my neighbors are actually cool people. Some undesirable low life's scattered about(especially on the 4th floor in my apt), but overall, my complex is mostly normal people, families.

I encourage everyone I talk to (including current residents) not to live here unless they want to be ripped off.

2 bedrooms will run you upwards of 1400 dollars!! This place (the building itself) is only worth a couple hundred, IF THAT. The grounds (property) used to be nice, now it's just grass and dying trees. Inside the apt are cheap floors, cheap cabinets that fall apart, cheap cork board kitchen floor, the crappy paint peels off in the bathroom, cracks in the walls, the closet 'doors' are made of some flimsy board material that's easily broken, the list goes on. The previous management made these DIY renovations that are just spit and glue - TOTALLY CHEAP, not worth anywhere NEAR a grand. No one in their right mind would pay a grand for this CRAP. Unsurprisingly, there's a very high turnover rate here. As soon as I can I'm clearing OUT OF HERE. Anyone looking for a new home: Do yourself a favor and STEER CLEAR of not just WOODVALE, but Castle Blvd altogether. For something nearby I'd actually suggest Hampton Point, not far from Robey Rd; a friend of mine lived there and it was quite nice.

That's interesting. Don't know why it says Reston, VA - I'm in Silver Spring. Probably the proxy. *shrugs*
