What happened to the band? Saw them practicing and there was only like a handful of what it use to be.

I was in the band the first year of sv, when Mr. Thompson was the director, and Mr. Wood helped out a lot. When Mr. Chaffin took over it went to shit and wasn't fun, a lot of people dropped band at that time including me. I don't know who is the director now, but they need to make it enjoyable again.

Mr Hardin is the one who took over the band...and he is the teacher who pushes learning music and the kids today don't want to do that they just want to goof around...

No! We are not terrible, we won many awards this past year, including GRAND CHAMPION of the Point Pleasant Competition, and our music and marching was the most difficult in the area and was written by professionals. Also, if you look at most marching bands, they are all smaller that used to be! The average amount of students in the band usually reflects about 10% of the amount of students school, and we're in that area. Mr. Hardin is a great teacher. Yes some people don't care about learning about music, but we have a very good group of musicians and yes some of them are VERY dedicated to what we do!

Your music and marching was not the most difficult, it was a joke! Doesn't matter who wrote it if you can't do it.

Seriously, you are bashing kids that could be spending time robbing you for their drug addiction instead of keeping themselves busy with school related functions and trying to do their best. The leadership at the school is horrible and it is not the kids' faults.
Next time you want to make fun of people, why don't you consider that they could quit, get messed up behind the wheel and wreck into your kid, or parents, or friends.

what does leadership at the school have any thing to do with the size of the band? unfortunately , some kids want to play soccer, or football and aren't allowed in the band... to much conflict with schedules

They are so many kids that would love to be in the band,,but it is way to exspensive,..they $$$$$$$ you to death..there are so many children in middle school, taking band class and parents buying instuments...then when they get to high school they can't be in the band is because it's to much money for camp ,rental on uniforms, and competion..even flag corps, cheerleaders, twirlers, the cost is unreal...whatever happened to just doing different half time shows and not competing..let all the kids have the chance to be in the band and the kids should not have to rent the uniforms ,,,they are already paid for the kids should not have to pay out alot of money to be in any kind of function in school ,,,that is what we pay taxes for

All that Mr Hardin & (former director Mr Chaffin) are concerned about are awards. Its not about learning and having fun, enjoying high school like kids should. It's all about the awards they can sit on their desk. Its awful. I didn't enjoy having either of them, and it had nothing to do with me "not wanting to work." Stayed with it all four years.

I'm not trying to seem rude, but Mr. Hardin would rather have a group that learns about music than have any of the trophies in the world, and I believe it. I know him very well from these past few years, and I know all Mr. Hardin cares about is us learning. Sure, trophies are nice and we as members of the band want them, but NO, he is not only worried about awards!

I'm so glad all of you know what you all are talking about! The only one that speaks the truth is Proud Band Geek. Mr. Hardin could care less about trophies if you all knew him you would know that. Then if you knew him better you would know the kids come first! This man stands up for what is right and will always, but it would be nice if idiots like all of you would leave him and the program alone! I would be the first to stick up for him. He is a dad to most kids in the band. He does his job and does it well. Come do it yourself if you think likewise....Hey pretty boy from Midland I'm pretty sure that we did grade 5 drill and music. Not follow the leader drill and have seizures on the ground for half the show...
