Man leads police on four-mile chase

Suspect’s speed reached 100 mph on 60th Street in early morning

Kenosha police officers arrested a 29-year-old man early Tuesday on a laundry list of traffic crimes after a pursuit that had the makings of footage for “Most Amazing Police Chases.”

The four-mile pursuit reached speeds of 100 mph on 60th Street and included officers following the suspect through narrow alleys and across yards, according to police reports. One police car was damaged while another narrowly missed a collision with the suspect’s vehicle.

It ended at about 3:15 a.m. Tuesday at 5425 14th Ave., where officers found Michael W. Deprinzio Jr. in a basement. He was taken into custody for knowingly fleeing an officer, operating a vehicle without the owner’s consent, his second operating-while-intoxicated offense, reckless driving, knowingly operating with a suspended license and causing damage, battery to an officer, two counts of resisting police and a probation hold.

Ten officers were involved, Sgt. Hugh Rafferty said.

According to reports, the pursuit began at 3:04 a.m. after police received a report of an erratic driver who nearly hit a motorcycle on 75th Street.

When officer Leo Viola attempted to pull over Deprinzio, driving a 1983 Oldsmobile, on northbound Pershing Boulevard at 75th Street, Deprinzio accelerated to about 70 mph, reports said.

A second officer joined the pursuit at 60th Street as Deprinzio turned east and the chase reached speeds of 100 mph.

The chase continued north on Sheridan Road and west on 58th Street before Deprinzio turned into an alley in the 5900 block of 18th Avenue. Police said Deprinzio damaged a fence, drove across a grassy area and scraped some low-hanging tree limbs before returning to pavement in the 5700 block of 16th Avenue. A trailing police car reportedly damaged its spotlight while passing through the alley.

Another police car was waiting on 16th Avenue, but Deprinzio reportedly drove onto the parkway to avoid crashing with the car. He then accelerated north on 16th Avenue, over a set of railroad tracks and weaved through construction barricades.

Deprinzio then turned into an alley in the 5400 block of 16th Avenue before heading south on 14th Avenue.

Finally, at 5425 14th Ave., Deprinzio exited the vehicle and fled to a basement. Officers learned after the ordeal that the Oldsmobile had been reported stolen in McHenry, Ill.

When officers found Deprinzio in the basement, he reportedly claimed he had been there all night. Deprinzio’s mother told police, however, that her son did not live there and she had been awakened by the sirens.

But Deprinzio still wouldn’t go easily, reports said. As officers tried to put him in a police car, he reportedly would not walk on his own and resisted placement inside the car. Reports said police tussled with Deprinzio and used a Taser to subdue him. He reportedly fell and struck his face on the pavement and needed seven stitches for a cut above his eye.

I met this guy back in the day. Very disturbed person. He didnt have the childhood every child should of had. He can be a good guy when he wants to but has a very darkside. All we can say now is that he is and adult and is responsible for his own actions. Sad to see someone so young drown their life into a bottle of booze to chase away old memories.
