I`ve looked online at houses in Klamath Falls and north just past Chiloquin. Where is the best area to live? Klamath Falls or Chiloquin?

I grew up in Chiloquin and will never go back. It is a beautiful area, the rivers are inviting. But it's the people and drama that kill the appeal. Racism on both sides. It will never change. I live in Keno and love it. I don't have school aged children but my husband went to the elementary here. No problems, the school is a little old. It's a small town, not a lot of drama that I know of. We stay out of it and keep to ourselves. Everyone I have come across here have been pleasant. Hope this helps you!

Thank You, we have spoken to friends and family in Medford and Salem and they said not to move to Chiloquin because of the mean folks around there. We saw a few nice resonable places in Keno. One is an older trailer on the river. We are coming up in a couple of weeks to look around.

There have been 8 murders this year. The entire area is ravaged by meth, and there is nothing to do except hunt and fish. Hunting and fishing which is sparse at best. The lake stinks as soon as it is warm enough to swim.

Do yourself a favor and move to Medford or Ashland if you are dead set on southern Oregon.

At the least go out to wal mart, and take a drive up east main street in Klamath Falls. There you will see the real face of this town.

If you are used to a larger area with crime, and gangsters and wanna be types and all of that, you won't be victimized in Klamath Falls by any means.

I didn't mean to come off as saying you couldn't survive the mean streets of K falls or anything haha.

My point is, for raising kids, there are areas in southern oregon that aren't more of the same crap. Drug pushers, people trying to get your kids to act out gangster life etc are the danger.

Kfalls probably won't take your life, or your kids life or freedom or sobriety. But it will surely, without question, with even the best parenting, give them a lower standard of what is "class" vs "trash".

I would look around Medford, Central Point, Ashland. All are just as cheap cost of living, and in my opinion more scenic/pretty.

All 3 are also less crime per capita.

All 3 have more events and places to eat, more markets, and better shopping vs "catalog falls" as it is called.

Obviously just looking around and reading a few newspapers the Rogue Valley is far more "upscale" in living standards and way of thinking.

The Rogue Valley is typical rural America. The Klamath Basin is an isolated off interstate Jerry Springer show.

If you really want a 'View' of life in Chiloquin,, read some of the forums 'Topix Chiloquin',,,, unless you are native, don't bother reading about the 'Water Rites',,,, reading the forums about what the people in that town say about each other. It's a reall eye opener. There are criminals in every town, however Klamath County has a real problem with METH, Theft, Robbery, Child Abuse, Alcohol Abuse, Personal Property Vandalisim, and recently Home Invasion.
If I knew then what I know now I would have never come to this County,,, I agree with the opinion that the 'Rogue Valley,,, Ashland, Medford ,,,, by far much happier place to live.
There is Nothing for the younger generation to do except do drugs, drink alcohol, have sex & babies, commit crimes of all sorts. Oregon is beautiful, some of the small towns & cities are not.

We have lived in Chiloquin for a few years now and it is just like any other small community. It is what you make of it. Schools are not going to raise your kids for you; it is up to the entire family to make education a positive and rewarding adventure. Property values are going up and with that comes an increase in community involvement. Yet we have a void in leadership - as the city council is made up of the same old gang who are not as educated about 21st century governance and rely on their failed old ways to approach opportunities. It is up to the community to make any area productive. We have a majority of good people here and a few that should not even be allowed to walk the earth.

Be good parents, avoid the negative, follow the law. If your of color, expect profiling! Enjoy the outdoors, small population, less pollution! And don't let small town politics ruin the community!

Enjoy Klamath Falls by moving to the Hot Springs area. Pacific Terrace Avenue is beautiful. A little less in cost are the homes on Eldorado Ave. Nice neighbors! We've been there 26 years and never had a problem. Hot Springs below the big "K" on the hill.

People move here and expect it to be an extension of where ever it is they left. Back in 1969 I went to Conger grade school. Then about that same year or so there was an earthquake and pretty much overnight our classroom number almost doubled. Where was the earthquake? Los Angels. its been a downward spiral ever since. People should not make decisions based off of what they think they know. Instead, do a little research on who they think they are and who the people they come mingle with will respond to the arrival of the offspring of people who attempted genocide on the original inhabitants of this land a little over 100 years ago over gold. Back in the 1850's some dude poisoned a bunch of native people at a peace dinner over in the Rogue Valley and it was off to the races. They named a bunch of infrastructure with this pre Hitler/Trump person. People only have to be as cooperative as they choose to be, supposedly, and if kicking a hornets nest around for fun gets boring still expect some consequences. Regardless, we are not going anywhere.
