Hope the cotton picking in good this fall. By the way..when do we get out of school for cotton picking? Sure is hot going to school this week. Only been back one day and already complaining. I about as soon be back out in the field chopping as going to school. Only thing to look forward to now is playing baseball and going swimming at the park on Sunday.

Can't wait til fall. Pick some cotton to buy winter school clothes and save enough to go to the fair. Going to buy a couple of blue jeans a few shirts, a pair of boots, and whatever else I need at Hamra's or Grabers. Can't afford to shop at Kahn's...cost too much.

When I go shopping, I am going to buy some candy at Sterling's and save my money so I can get a hamburger, sodie, and some chips at Bill's cafe.

The fair will be here before long, been collecting the little tickets all summer for the free car drawing.... can't believe they are giving away a new car every night at the fair..... we are taping out tickets to a poster board to keep them all neat...

You evidently haven't seen that new pickin machine down behind rhews grocery. They said this time next year everybody will be using them. It'll pick like 500 hired hands. Damn machine is ugly too. Tractor turned backwards wit dig basket on it. Looks like a monster coming at you with all them teeth. Dad said he wasn't pickin this year. Gonna keep driving coal truck at coal yard. Can do that all winter and stock up more hogs down on chance street next to ditch and sell em all spring and summer. Something goin on at street dept on fifth street. Robot Dempsey said they were gonna blacktop all the streets on this end of town. Guess dad and Willard Finley don't need to do the streets with that team of mules and chisel plow everytime it rains anymore. Good thing cause Willard got drunk and fell off last week and mules plowed up miss Goodman's chicken coops. One of the judges caught a ride with Raymond Scott today. Was on courthouse steps soapboxin about city will have duildings stretching al the way to 19 ditch and beyond one day and tofreys mill and beyond, and even past Joe Wilson's junkyard. Everdody was laughing so hard. Judges wife was so embarrassed. What would we do for turnip and Polk salad ground in town then..

Is a ton of coal still gonna sell for $8 a ton this fall? I've heard it's gonna be a hard winter so I need somebody to haul a couple tons over to my side yard before the price goes up.

Sorry, but up to 15 dollars but the bosses told dad his customers were steady so he could dump extra half bucket on their loads. Just ask for Johnny aka NOB. He will take care of you. Those who come in and pay cash at office get. 20 percent off. That's 12 dollars a ton and with extra half bucket brings it down around 8 a ton. Better hurry though, dads putting in 14 hours now filling orders. As for one talking about Stevens bunch I am gonna Marty that Stevens girl in 2004 I just know it.

Didn't see the preacher but Willard Finley uses a team to do-all the streets around Randol, Chance, Third, Fourth, and Fifth. He's got two draft horses bigger than the mules. Keeps them down on ditch by chance street with dads hogs right behind Mrs Goodman's chicken coops. She's a cool lady. If you have trouble with the rent you just save scraps for her to pickup with her wagon to feed chickens and your straight and on Sunday she takes a chicken by to butcher for dinner to those in need. That's what good landlords are about but I am afraid they wont always be around.

She's only one with phone in neighborhood also and has door open for all to use. Gotta wait your turn though. Its a party line. I just like listening to the dial turn. Don't actually know anyone with a phone. Hell grandma still cooks on wood.

That reminds me that I need to put my "50" sign in the window so that the ice man knows to drop off a block this week.

Stop next door at McAfee station. Dad owns it too. As soon as we wash off coal dust we run up levee to station and do the nickel baseball pinball thing after going to Mr Arties Store for sandwich but dad has 16 oz returnables now for ten cents.
