man, you can tell us to diet and loose weight all you want to, but its not easy to do that. When you can hardly walk due to arthritis, how do you expect me to get any exercise. I probably do not even eat as much as you do, but what I do put in my mouth does not get worked off at all. So am I just suppose to stop eating and just die? Not all people who are overweight enjoy being that way. I do not have an electric chair nor do I get food stamps, so do not worry about you having to pay my way.
Any maybe if you learn to spell, you can get a better job to help pay my way if I ever need those things.
Can you see now how uncaring what you said is? I made that statement about you learning to spell to show you exactly how it is. You are doing the same thing to others. We are always going to be able to find something to pick on others about. Why lower ourselves to do such a thing? The only thing I can see you should complain about is his driving it on city streets. I am sure that is against the law. Being overweight is not against the law.
I said you cant even walk, due to your WEIGHT... not health problems.. In your case, I totally agree there is a need for those wheel chairs for people who, like yourself, need them. As far as those people, i have known them for a while, they havent always been that big.. they let themselves get that big.. and before getting that big had no problem getting around.. so if there is no health condition BEFORE they got that big, common sense tells us that their weight is the cause of the problem.. not a medical condition. So in this situation, they need to diet, and there are stretches and low impact exercises, such as swimming they could do.. I dont believe we should feel sorry for them just b/c two normal people have eatin themselves into this situation. I dont imagine we would find you rolling down the highway eating a bucket of chicken and drinking a coke would we? IT seems you are a completely different case. So please, when i am making reference to these people, it has nothing to do with you.

If you think about it, the taxpayers pay for a lot people's choices. What about the people who have one baby after another knowing they can't support them. They know what causes pregnancy and how to prevent it, they just choose not to. Same goes for people that are being supported by the taxpayer because they've ruined their health with cigarettes and alcohol. That was their choice too.

What I'm saying is there are all kinds of people with a disability out there that people know nothing about unless you see us hanging on to a shelf because we are trying not to fall and look like an idiot. I to can only walk so far and have to stop so before you get all upset with someone because you are trying to get by why not stop and ask if they need any help, take a little time out of your rushing around and be humble for you fellow Americans.

I'd rather see the money go to people instead of spending millions of dollars to research the mating habits of moths and other silliness.

They put several people with Diabetes on Avandia. It does wonders to lower blood sugar but I know a guy who gained 46 lbs in 3 months when he started taking it. You can't judge everyone who is real big as eating like hogs.

People who don't have these problems can not understand that people don't choose to be in pain, or to have RA, or to be obese. To tell an obese person to lose weight is comparable to telling someone they should grow taller. No one wants to be so heavy they are a burden.

I have no problem with them using their chairs at all, but I don't think they should be able to drive them down the middle of first street. It's not only dangerous for them, it's dangerous for the traffic around them.
People have to license vehicles that are street-legal...so, if that's the case, maybe those chairs should require licensing?
Whether or not my tax dollars paid for it really doesn't concern me.
And, someone asked earlier why there was such a spike in the usage of those chairs? Have you seen all those Scooter Store and Hover-Round commercials?? You'd be amazed at how many people see the commercials and then call their dr's office, trying to get approved for one. It happens a LOT. I've witnessed MANY of those calls.

I am a large woman, I have severe arthritis in both of my knees. It is for this exact reason that I refused to use one of the electric shopping carts at Walmart for years and would endure horrible pain to do my shopping. I finally realized that if I did not use one, I could not continue to shop. It does not matter to me what you think of me. I am a decent person, I keep myself clean, and make sure before I go out I have my hair fixed, makeup on and smell nice. Just because I am a large person does not mean I am lazy. I hope and pray that one day you do not have to use one of the chairs and someone makes fun of you. Next time you see one of us "huge" people in one of the chairs, why not stop and get to know us and find out "why" we are using one.
Amen to you my heart goes out to all anyone that has to use a wheelchair or confined to one. Some people on here have nothing better to do than to get on here and start bs. like you said hope they dont have to ever use a wheelchair in there lifetime. God bless all that are using wheelchairs, walkers, canes.

One of these day someone is going to get hit by someone that is not paying attention to their driving or just didn't see them and those people in those chairs are going to get messed up bad

I dont know if the people need them or not but they SHOULD keep them off the streets. Somebody is going to take their eyes off the road for a split second and hit and kill them and the person driving is going to have to live with that the rest of their life. I know it was dark a few months back and I almost hit them. They had a small dim flash light taped on the chair. They should at least go during daylight hours and keep them on the sidewalk as much as it allows.

Can anyone tell me why the sudden spike in
these wheelchair uses lately?
I'm not poking fun at people who HAVE to
use them but jeez, some people are seemingly
using them just to escort their rolls around and
it gets to be a bit annoying.Just be in a grocery
store long enough and 70% of the people who use
those are 300 lbs or more. It's just sickening
after awhile when you have perfectly healthy but
lazy people cruising at 5 mph up and down the aisles.I mean c'mon, the last thing some of these
people need to do is NOT WALK!There wasn't near as many people in those things years ago,now all the sudden when people got a predilection towards Twinkies, they're licensed to burn rubber.
I'm not gonna name drop here, but there is a perfectly healthy guy who works at WALMART,standing and working 8 hrs a day,but you see him at another store, and all the sudden he's
Christopher Reeve? Once again, this isn't toward everyone who uses those, there are plently of
elderly folks who shouldn't have to wait around while some chubby couple get through fat haulin' around the store.
My mom has heart disease and other problems, can only walk for so long at a time and she refuses to ride in those, same with my mother in law.
Attack me if you must, but it's a subject I obviously feel strongly about.
stop and think about it maybe your mom really needs that wheelchair but refuse it because of ppl like you how sad you may be hurting someone you love

The highway dept is going to build a sidewalk from McMahon's to Dairy Queen for pedestrians and the chairs. There is no walk there now. That's probably why they need to go down that way in the turn lane.

Once again,I stated I wasn't villifying the sick or the elderly! I meant those lazy 20/30 somethings. If my mom DID get one of them...Once again-the sick or elderly.Besides that,I've never lost sleep everytime someone had something to say about me or my family, nor do I expect an opposite reaction from anyone else.
And medical conditions which make you gain weight, yeah I get that and am completely sympathetic to those in that state, but not every overweight person is on their deathbed.
But,when you're
standing in line and you got a 350 pounder, with her 4 kids and $600 in EBT,and I see about 80% junk food-I don't see a woman whose struggling with a sickness who wants to help her physical state as much as possible,I see someone who feeds off the government's pity and the public's tax dollars.
Like I said, this recent widespread epidemic of
"I'm fat so my knees are weak" is becoming a
worn out song sung by the lazy.
I didn't say I was thin or healthy but right now as I speak I just got home from work, but I'm seriously now considering quitting my job, going on an ice cream binder and getting me an electric
wheelchair complete with a flag,
maybe a good stereo and some nitrous oxide.
I'll get me a mate in the same state, take her to Wendys and cruise off into the sunset while screaming "Eat my dust, you skinny bastards!
Thanks for the ride!"
That is unless Xzibit will Pimp My Electric Wheelchair.
