There's plenty for kids to do in Kennett: math, science, language. Parents must help their children understand the need for job skills and it's never too early to start them on that path. Instead of watching "movies" or trotting along behind drunks and druggies to "bars", let's encourage the children to learn valuable skills and become productive members of society.

I agree - it's sad to see so many young people with nothing in Kennett. KFVS12 had a story a couple of weeks ago - Union Co MO is working on something for their young people, a spokesman said so many are going through the juvenile system -and that county wants to help prevent problems. The youth is this town's future and those that don't believe it can stick their head in the sand. It would be great if there was a forum where people could post ideas to our town's Mayor for everyone to see. Peace

though I do agree kids are limited, closing the bars has nothing to do with it. The most thriving towns and cities in our country genorate a large portion of their income from bars. The problem is kennett is filled with 'what can you do for me?' people. People say they need to, they did this, they didn't do enough. All it takes is someone opening something for them. They who would close the bars is the government. You know any kids places or 'fun zones' opened by the government? No. People open it.

Teaching Math in the 1950s: A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is 4/5 of the price. What is his profit?

Teaching Math in the 1960s: A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is 4/5 of the price, or $80. What is his profit?

Teaching Math in the 1970s: A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is $80. Did he make a profit?

Teaching Math in the1980s: A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is $80 and his profit is $20. Your assignment is to underline the number 20.

Teaching Math in the 1990s: A logger cuts down a beautiful forest because he is selfish and inconsiderate and cares nothing for the habitat of animals or the preservation of our woodlands. He does this so he can make a profit of $20. What do you think of this way of making a living?(Topic for class participation after answering the question: How did the birds and squirrels feel as the logger cut down their homes?(There are no wrong answers, and if you feel like crying, it's OK.)

Teaching Math in 2009: Un hachero vende una carretada de madera para $100. El costo de la produccion es $80. Cuanto dinero ha hecho?

Teaching Math in 2013: Who cares, just steal the humber from your rich neighbor's property. He won't have a gun to stop you, and the President says it's OK anyway cuz it's redistributing the wealth.

The kids now could do like we did as children, we entertained ourselves. Always a fun time to be had riding bikes, playing baseball and basketall with friends, church activities, going to the library and checking out a book to read, these are just to name a few.

People don't need to be "busy"; they need to work. They need the skills to work; they don't need to spend time throwing a ball through a hoop or swimming back and forth across a pool.

That's the problem with this country today: lazy people think they should get up and get busy. What they need to do is to get up and get educated and then go apply that education in the marketplace and try not to become another tax-sucking leech on society.

Daddy didn't hug you enough did he? Kids and teens should have a lot of down time adulthood is for working and raising families. You sound like you put your kid in the mine when they turned five. Social activities and sports can be fulfilling and teach valuable lessons. Quit being an old Mizer.

You can't work and properly raise a family if all you do as a kid and teenager is to throw a ball back and forth. No the role of children and teens is to learn how to be responsbile citizens and not a burden to taxpayers. They should start early and make learning a lifelong process. When you know how and do it right, work is full of joy and rewards.

It's sad the number of people with no childhood. It's not that there is nothing to do. It's the things there were to do all you parents let your badass kids ruin it. My childhood there was great because my parents taught me how to make it great. Putting kids to work to make them responsible is communist crap. Facts show kids that played sports as a kid are more successful then not. They learn friendship, cooperation, and social skills. Learn at school, then enjoy yourself as you learn how to live.

oh yeah real fun you gonna pay for all kids to join ? walking , and bike riding s free going to church is good but come on KENNETT needs something for the kids to do movies , skating rink, better pool where it doesnt cost comeon we have poor and middle class kids here also and if your parent doesnt have cars or is on a fixed income then how are the kids going to join any of those sports ?and people wonder why kids are staying on computers and watching too much tv . well i just wonder how do those who dont have transportation going to get their kids to all their activities ? ya know not every one can afford cars, activities, and taking their kids to a mall or a movie out of town . Kennett needs something for kids and older adults to do ,a movie theater would be great at least the kids could go to a movie once a month and the alder adults also, no wonder so many kids get out and steal things and get in trouble, and get in jail or just grow up and move out of here cause theres nothing to do.

No, people grow up and leave Kennett because there are no decent jobs in Kennett. If you're not a doctor, lawyer, a teach, or child of a business owner then you're working in a factory or some other job you will never get rich doing. There is zero opportunity to be very successful unless you have the right last name or do it illegally. That's why we all moved out. And everyone talks about making things better and they'll repaint the city limit sign or throw up some ugly ass black and neon signs and call it a day. The effort to rebuild the square has been good, but one family can't do it all.

Of course a skating rink and movies would cost money just as the activities do ... If Kennett is so bad you could always move

Davis have you ever heard of child labor laws. I worked in the cotton fields when i was a child and i hope my grandkids never have to. I hope they get to enjoy their childhood before they have to become an adult.

there's nothing wrong with kids in the cotton fields if the kids are getting the money for it. It builds character and gives the kids something productive to do in the summer.
