Just wondering if here in the bible belt you would respect a preacher that didn't wear suit and ties?

If you showed up for church on Sunday morning, and he was wearing a nice pair of jeans and a nice shirt, would you think that was wrong?

Why do you need to ask the question? What does the Bible say?

In the book of James it says that it doesn't matter. I am at work can't remember the Chapter of Verse. Forgive me.
I don't think that the important thing is what the pastor wears to church. The important thing is what type of annointing he has to deliver the message.
When we go to church we are suppose to worry only about OUR OWN relationship with God and not what anyone else is doing or wearing. If someone does worry about these things that is Satan whispering in their ears trying to prevent them from getting the full message of God.

LOL... sorry Dorothy.. didn’t mean to offend anyone by asking this.

Obviously you are aware that it doesn't matter but... unfortunately, there are still some that believe differently.(see the poll results!!!)

I was just curious about how prevalent it still is in this area... I am glad to see that it doesn't to those who have posted in this thread!!!

.. but to some voters in here.. it still does!

@Zoepastor, I do know where you are coming from, there seems to be people who only worry about what others are wearing and who is doing what, the only time the actually go to church is on Easter so they can wear the new clothes. Not everyone is like this, but There are some that do..
In my opinion as long as the word of God is being put out there and the message is clear I would not care if my pastor were wearing a pair of shorts and a garth brooks tshirt, but I would definately be jealous of the tshirt..lol

I don't think its a stupid question. I think most feel a pastor should wear a suit. I myself feel that if the word of God is being spread, it should not matter if he wears a suit or a nice set of clothing...not shorts of course(only my opinion)...but jeans would be acceptable to me.

The way I read it,it says wear your best.
So if you have only jeans with holes in them than that is your best.
People should not be judged by their clothing
Christ wore a robe......that was his best !
to many again worries about what the other is doing..this has nothing to do with bringing the word of God to any one........
Depending on where the word is being giving as what the apparel may be as well..

I would like to hear from some of the people that voted "NO! He must wear a suit!"... Why do you feel they must wear one?

Clothing is not what makes the preacher. God Blesses the man, not dresses him. As long as he is doing God's work, what he wears should not make a differene. I think God expects us to dress modest and decent, to set an example. WE are not to conform to the ways of the world and that includes the way we dress.

I don't know where it says that, but i know this.

God would rather me wear a presentable outfit that is cheap, so that I can give more to His work (missions and such) than He would me wear a suit.

The issue in the NT is modesty... the high priests in the OT were the ones that had to wear the get-up.

A question for all the folks who answered "No"... do you think the poor folks in Philippi would even listen to Paul had he wore his "three - piece - robe"?

I would have no problem with a preacher wearing jeans, Dockers etc. The sermon and fellowship is why I would be at Church, not to see the currwnt fashion. Albeit, I realize that dressing in jeans and such would be bucking the norm for around here. However, consider some of the religions that have fellowship in the nude, use snakes in their sermons etc. Just because something is different doesn't mean that it's bad...

Are you going to a fashion show or are you going to hear the word of God to help with your Inter Spirit?

I don't think it's a stupid question either. I think that he just wanted to know everybody else's opinion. Hey...Jesus didn't wear a suit, did he? I think that it would be perfectly fine for my preacher to do so.

When we attend a worship service I think we should present our finest impression, for our heavenly father and for all others worshiping. If jeans are the best you have, then I think you should wear them and by all means go to worship.
However, I have problems today with preachers dress to the hilt to go to a wedding or a funeral among other places, then appear at worship in any other way. For me, when I approach my heavenly father, I will dress in my best.

More important issues in the church like accoutability of the leadership for stewardship and thats not just laying it at the prophets feet without concern for its use as some so eloquently put it.

Try dressing the heart as that is what god looks upon and quit making it about appearance. It shouldnt matter either way. Dress who you are whether its a three peice suit or holy jeans and work on your heart because it shines bright even when you try to hide it with deceptive practices. It shouldnt matter what others think of what you say or how you dress. Few agreed with jesus in the church but they couldnt reach the world like him with their doctrine and traditions and much like those days his true will is pretty unacceptable in churches due to the seeking of wealth and power.

Once had a youth minister come in wearing a suit and tie, all decked out, looking like a million buck. But as he started talking to the kids, he started taking off some Of those articles of clothing. Each time he made a point he would remove his "good clothes" and reveal what was underneath. Under his suit was nothing but shirts and shorts with holes all in them. The message was that it didn't matter what you looked like on the outside, that you could worship god no matter what you were wearing. And that sometimes you hafta look behind the suit and tie and see the person that is wearing it.

I can't find a church that isn't so caught up in material bs to feel comfortable there. My husband & I are from a nearby town, we make a fairly good income but live humbly. We have two very dependable vehicles. My daughter traded us for a wk bc she needed to haul some stuff. She has a quite nice 2010 model. I was disgusted by the change in how we were approached differently when we went the 3rd wk in her vehicle. Material matters is what runs the churches now. It's sad. I'll just stay home & read my bible on Sunday.
