I know there is a doctor who prescribes more than 3 narcotic pain killers to people who really does not need them. Are they helping them by prescribing so many of them if they are not terminally ill. these people are turning around and selling them on the streets for a great deal of money. Sadly a fact, these medicines are paid for by our tax dollars through medicaid, and they are selling them, to make money, this is sad to me. and makes me angry, is there anything we can do to solve this problem? does anyone have any ideas...?

They get a monetary kickback and it seems they dont care who dies as long as they make money. I just eat healthy, excercise and don't give the drug or healthcare industries my time or money. Good Luck.

I am glad my doctor will write for more than tylenol. I have arthritis in both of my knees and cannot function without something stronger than tylenol on some days. I do not take these every day so I am not addicted, or will not become addicted to them. I cannot afford to run to a specialist to get help. All doctors are not the kind who just write these to everyone. I think some have the sense to know who is selling, or using and who really needs them.

Hi, I completely understand your concern and anger over the situation. There ARE things that can be done, but it is just "how far" you want to go to address this problem. As a "narcotis user" but not an abuser,(even though the risks are there for me), I sit on mostly middle ground concerning this topic, and I hope it is not MY doctor who you are referring to, although I am almost sure it isn't. <smile>
Drug abuse is a serious problem in this country and I do all I can to address the issue daily and try to help those who don't know where to go to seek help.
Addressing the doctor in a diplomatic way and pointing out the patients that are selling them is ONE way that may help.
Doctors are governed rigorously pertaining to narcotic drugs and the amount they can perscribe. IF the doctor is actually a Dr. Feelgood...after talking to him civally (sp) you may find that HE becomes confrontive...Don't feed into his anger, leave and take the "next step", which is to contact the people who do reviews of such matters, you can start with the "state board".
I hope this helps
PEACE

Bless you "once was JUST ME", for I am in the same situation as you as far as pain goes, with the exception that I CAN get addicted because I am a drug/alcohol addict who is clean and attends meetings to help me continue on my life-style of "sobriety".
I can actually say "I feel your pain" and mean it hahahahaha...<wink>...AN D I definately understand the need of narcotics to ease the pain. I have also found out that activity and exercise (mostly stretching) works wonders and I am in the process of getting a machine called a t.e.n.s. unit, which I know from past experience works for me. I wish you all the best in your dealing with and coping with the pain. Never give in to the pain and just sit down and give up,(I tried that and it became worse), and am now in physical therapy to gain back mobility.

It must be very hard to deal with the pain and not be able to use the pain relievers. I respect that you know that potential for abuse is there and leave them alone. It is why I have fought so hard not to use more than I need to, I try to use only when I know I am going to be on my legs alot during the day. I can't give in to the pain, I have two young grandbabies that keep me going.:) The doctor told me if I gave up and didn't move I would lose use of my legs, I am not going to let that happen for as long as I can. I hope you get mobility back in your legs and can live as painlessly as you can. You sound like a good person.:)

Sorry you misunderstood my position on this...I DO use narcotics for the pain as I stated in a previous post above yours, I am careful with them...and bless you for the niceness that oozes from the postings of yours that I have read througout "topix", there is SUCH a need for this type of attitude on here., I "TRY" to do the same. While I am indeed a nice person I have did a LOT of mean hateful things in my past, but thank God I no longer live in that kind of misery!

I am sorry I misunderstood your post, but I am glad to know that you are able to get relief from the pain. Those who have never had to live with bad pain just don't have a clue what we go through. Sometimes it's "be darned if you do, and be darned if you don't".

I to have my bad side, I am sure 'one' on here could say that.;) But I try to be nice as I can be most of the time. I guess there is always something that causes each one of us to lose our cool at times. Thank you for your nice words.

oh I definately am not against using the pain medicine for people who need it, what i meant was, that i know of a doctor practioner actually, that precribe this medicine to a person that i know, who is on medicaid, there is nothing wrong with her, maybe an occasional headache, this practitioner, gives her 3 very (stong Loritab 2kinds(10's and 7.5's and firocett, percodan narcotics(over 120 for all three)plus xanax, in one monthly visit, no mri done, no test run nothing, just gives them to her,and this person brags about how much money they make when they sell them on the street. that's is how she makes her living, and that is what i mean by this is what we pay for when we pay our taxes, for the medicaid that people like her abuse.... it's just not right. There are people who are really sick and need this help, and those that abuse it make it hard on them.It just burns me up! know what i mean?

Kennett Citizen, have you called and told the NP this? Maybe they are not aware of it, and if they were it would stop. Plus, if you know she is doing this and abusing Medicaid by letting them pay for it, I am sorry, but that is just wrong of you not to report it. Understand I am not jumping you over this, but this kind of thing hurts us all in the long run.

Yes, I agree about loosing one's cool every so often, there is a person on here with the name "c'mon out ruthie" or something like that who has accused me of being "ruth" and I KNOW I am not. I have evn posted my real name on here to defend myself...I am beginning to wonder if "they are "ruth""...LOL.. .I am not scared to post my real name on here because I hardly EVER say anything rude to folks, BUT this person is about "THERE". I am also beginning to wonder as did another poster, whether this "come on out ruthie" person is SERIOUSLY mentally ILL and without meds...hahahahaha...anyway...I have vented about them and I feel better already...ROTFL...and like my sponsor tells me..."If someone calls you a bad name, Don't BECOME that bad name to "try" to prove something to an IDIOT"!!!
WHEEWW
I FEEL BETTER...

LOL...you are to much! I am always telling my daughter not to lower herself to 'some' peoples level by acting like they do. And yet at times, I will let some "idiot" get the better of me and drag me there! Imagine that!

I think the 'cmon out ruthie' person is just an internet troll. Someone who loves to stir people up. Topix is full of them.

Now I feel terrible ...NOT! hehe have a great day:)

Utilize a pay phone and you can make an anonymous call to the doctor's office just to let them know the name of the patient selling their meds and one to the local police dept. Most doctors are aware of the most abused drugs and the practice of selling them and won't prescribe large amounts. Those that do simply have no credibility. If you report them to the state licensing agency, they too may look at the doctors prescribing practices. I have made calls to the local police about individuals out of control - a risk to both themselves and others. The call was very nicely accepted and I was told the individual and their residence was presently under surveillence. Sometimes it takes a while and I am sure enforcement is aimed at the biggest fishes in the pond. I simply liked being part of the solution rather than the problem.

You have the right to take whatever narcotic you want, with a script....This IS your right as a citizen. Even if you don't necessarily need it, if you want it, you can have it, with a script..
As an adult you can decide to turn to narcotics and get a legal script to carry...definitely do not like the idea of selling them...When you have a script and a Dr. you can get regular liver test etc....This will ensure that the narcotic is not KILLING you...I personally take Hydro's/Lorcet plus for MAJOR back problems that leave me useless. Without them I cannot sit, stand, lay only water (like a hot tub)where all pressures and gravity are mostly gone, then I get relief...
Can't work in water or in space, so I guess I'm on the meds until I decide to TRY surgery...if back surgery was just a 50% success rate, I'd be the first in line to give it a try...unfortunately, that not the case..could be worse, better, no different or paralyzed...Plus as far as I know there isn't any meter to hook up to someone to see if they are in pain....so there is no way of knowing if someone is lying or not...not the doctors job, if they think you might be, they will send you to a councilor..then prob. write script anyways...at least for the Xanax..LOL......my 3 cents....:)

I am in the medical field and I don't believe your doctor is doing you a favor. My bet is it is a general practioner that is prescibing pain meds for an extended period. I don't believe a specialist would do so. Please tell me if I am wrong. You may have a right to take whatever is prescribed, but what quality of life do you have? I have been miserib;e before and after a while you want to try anything to feel better. I like the line in Shawshank Redemption (sp?) when he says, "you either have to get busy living or get busy dying".

yeah why you worrying about someone else maybe that person needs them and you are trying to stir up some bs. I myself have worked all of my life but recently got on disability and I have Mo. Medicaid for insurance and thats all that I have. So whomever you are referring this too you need to face them not be on here blabbing about something that is probably not even true at all.
