who is in charge of the pound? Is it city or county? The citizens of Kennett need to be aware of the shape these animals are in. Take pictures & post them on topix if need be. Go to a counsel meeting. Set up a bank account at a bank for the dog pound. Just DO SOMETHING. They need donations, whether it be food or money for food. And also take notice if they have water out there. You want to make sure they are being taken care of which it doesn't sound like they are. The public needs to be aware ot this. You could also publish something in the paper.

I suspect the animal control people found the dogs while they were starving. They cannot overnight fatten them up and they are probably giving them the first food they have had in weeks. I know one of the ladies that works there part-time and you will never convince me that she would mistreat any animal or person or would even work around anyone who did.

I have already contacted The Humane Society - whomever is in charge out there, is NOT doing there job.

I have dropped lots of dry dog food out there....I'm going to contact 'THS' again, does anyone know who is in charge out there? I need a name please.

Just in case your right i'm going to go out there myself in the morning. I hate to see hurt and starving animals also. I don't have much but i'd glady chip in for food for the poor animals. It has bothered me a lot since i read the first post.

Does Tena still work with animal control? Yes, Leon still works there. I've heard him on the scanner this week. The pound is owned by the city under the direction of the police chief. They are not yet considered to be a shelter.

The loose dogs outside the dog pound are not animals collected by the city. The pound is in the county and loose dogs are often dumped but they are not in violation in the county and hang around because of the dogs in the pound. the city has not authority to pick up dogs outside the city limits.

Thank you for that post. I'm relieved that it is not the dogs in the pound but nevertheless i sure hate to see them go hungry. If u see some pudgy old white haired man out there he will only be leaving some dry dog food for those poor animals.

They do or did feed the animals outside the fence that were just dumped there but they were not authorized to put them in the fence with the other dogs. The day I was out there she was feeding the dogs on the outside. maybe someone just dropped them off it takes time to get a skinny dog healthy again. Im not sure just a thought

Not - you now have to go higher up. This is neglect and apparently the person in charge has no real love and compassion for animals (Just someone looking for a check), nothing more.

This is unexceptable in kennett, Mo. or any damn place!

i looked at a dog out there, and when i decided NOT to adopt this little girl, leon, THREW her back in the cage with force, hitting her head and face on a metal pole. I was sooo disgusted. that is animal abuse from a person that is supposed to protect them

see I like mr. pulley but I had a similar situation. I was going through braggadocio and there was a little limping dog on side of highway, looked like it was terrier/chihuahua mixed. white with tan spots.. Anyways I stopped and she jumped in my car so I stopped at all the houses throughout there and no one knew her so I took her with me. I got to kennett and my husband said no and mr pulley met us at the pound. He took the dog and was trying to put her in cage in the back of the truck, she was scared and fighting to get away (not biting just squirmy) he grabbed her and hit her head against the gate.. I started crying like a baby and my husband who hates animals told him to give the dog back that we were taking her home with us.
My g'ma ended up taking the dog and she was such a friendly little thing, loved to lick, and was housebroken..

I am a very emotional person, and stories like this hurts my heart. I think it is time for leon to retire, and to get someone in there who actually cares for animals.

It would be hard to do that job though. I guess you would have to go get abused animals also. It takes a sorry mother f..er to abuse a defenseless animal.
I love animals and wish they all had good homes

I think you're right - I'm not trying to sound mean, but sometimes we just get tired of our job. He's a nice man as far as I know. I have spoke with him on a couple of occasions and he seems like a decent man.

Maybe he's just tired - this is a stressful job.

Let's get someone in there that will care for these poor animals with love and compassion.
