It was wiped out by a tornado a few years back and all that remained from the old town was the bank.

I lived in Chandler until 1970 and just visited there last week. Although it did have a bad tornado, there was much more left standing than the bank. The rest has been rebuilt. The exciting new thing around town is the "Fenton Project," a major wind-energy project. There are more than 100 commercial windmills that will supply over 66,000 homes with power (in Minneapolis primarily). This has also brought some prosperity to the farmers/land owners. Chandler actually looks very much like it always did, minus a Airforce base.

Sandra, I remember you, and Brian (B)?. I'll bet that's how your last name begins, yup. I remember you too. I moved from Colorado Springs to Chandler in about '67 and left there in '71. I believe you two must have been in the class of '70 or maybe '69. Those were some interesting years. I rarely get back down there but it seems to be a much cleaner and more civilized area now. They even paved the valley road. Of course we only lived for Saturday nights at the Hollyhock, other diversions, and eventually escaping to greener pastures. I have no idea how I bumped into this site but might just have to stop back again.

Back when I left school in 1980 it was the Chandle-Lake Wilson Mustangs and the girls teams went by the Pintos.

I remember you Danny Marcum! We were in the same grade. The elementary school building is still here but is now a private Christian school and the high school was destroyed in the 1992 tornado. There's an all school reunion being planned for Chandler's 125th anniversary in 2011. Give a shout if you want to come back and see the town and your old schoolmates and I'll make sure you get the date and otehr information. Duane and I left Chandler for 10 years and came back to roost in 1978 and love it here!

I was stationed at Chandler AFS during 1958-59. I wonder if your Father was SGT Marcum who ran the dining hall.I was in Chandler last year, the town hasen't changed much. The base, and housing area are all gone. The fence is all that is left.

Prior to being deployed to Korea in 1951 Iwas in communications at the AFB in Chandler. What is there now? Is the radar site still there.

If you were at the Air Force Base in Chandler in 1951 you must have been among the first people stationed there. It opened in 1951 and what an eye opener to the conservative people of Chandler. In the fall of 1950 I started school at the one room school house across Highway 91 from the AFB. I attended it through 5th grade until it closed and then on to Chandler Public School from which I graduated. The AFB closed sometime in the 70's and now is totally gone. I now live in Minneapolis MN but get to Chandler a couple of times a year. It remains pretty much as it was in the 50s, small, peaceful, remote, but with a lot of new buildings and no longer with a Public School. Still a nice little town.

As June 16 draws near, it brings many memories back to me and my family. We were living on the West side of Chandler, on top of the hill. I was home alone with a highschool Junior and a 7th grader. We huddled together under an old ping pong table. When the tornado was past, the tarp we sat on was gone, the table we sat under was gone and the only part of the basement that was not covered with debris was the 5 foot semi-circle, along the north side of our basement, where we sat. Every "thing" we owned was gone but our lives were spared. All those memories come back quickly when the dark clouds roll in.

I was in the base housing at Chandler in the late 50's also.... I have very vague memories -- I also went to elementary school there -- my father was a T/SGT there at the time -- his name is Dan Moore -- my mother is June Moore. I remember a family name of "Moberly" from there. My father went into the USAF (US Army Air Corps) in 1947 -- so he would have had about 11 to 12 years of service in the late 50's at Chandler. I think he had a PCS to Richards Gebaur AFB in Kansas City in about 1961 and probably promoted to M/Sgt around that same time.

Daily Horoscope for May 25

Taurus

Try hard not to let money or possessions come between you and a friend today, unless it's over something that has got to be sorted out before it goes any further. For instance, if someone owes you money and has consistently failed to pay it back, this is a good day for mentioning it to them and finding out what's going on. If necessary, you may have to be quite vehement.
