" the known infestation is limited to a few spots along roadsides and is the only outbreak in the state" - an infestation is a few spots along roadsides? I have an infestation of crab grass in my yard, apparently...send out the State Ag Department to kill it for me!!

So, how did it get here, on firewood or on a boat? Or do we need to start spraying down our cars and trucks with herbicide now?

Given that it thrives in cool moist climates, it sounds like global warming will take care of it. Can we count that on the positive side of gw?

Forget what the above morons say, this is a very serious problem. I've seen thousands of acres of the Inter-mountain West ruined by knapweed and I don't want it here. The only way to stop it is to be very aggressive and proactive while it is still confined. State, County, local government has to get on it right now. The US Forest Service needs to be involved also.

I'm a rightwing idiot and I think knapweed is a Sierra Club conspiracy. This is the place for rightwing idiots like me to come and wallow in our own disgusting stupidity.

Hill and Dale, no need to worry about the Sierra Club, they are only concerned about preserving native plants and have nothing against eradicating invasives.

The lesson has been learned over and over, if you don't control an invasion early you'll likely lose.
Spotted knapweed got out of hand in Montana and now chokes out an estimated 4 million acres.

It got there after being carried on a canoe loaded on the roof of a Toyota Prius.

Just look what the environ"mental" nuts are doing in California. Thousands of acres of food (for humans) are going to waste from drought and farmers being put out business because of them. All to protect some smelt that might or might not get caught in the water pumps the farmers desperately need to save crops! These nuts need to go!!!!!!!!!!

Google it and get a clue!

Better to be quiet and look like a fool then to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

The problem isn't smelt getting caught in pumps, it's taking more water than the delta needs to keep salt water from intruding from the SF Bay.
Salt water intrusion will do a lot more than kill some worthless smelt, it can also contaminate the soil and groundwater ruining even more farmland than lack of water would.

Best course of action to solve Calif's water problem would be to cut off water to the southern cities forcing the population to move where there is water.
